A wonderful opportunity has arisen for a Qualified Social Worker to join a Children's Service in Wokingham Borough Council.

The main purpose of the role is to take responsibility for complex cases and undertake specific tasks, responsibilities and duties that contribute positively to the development of the service. To assess need, plan and deliver focused intervention to safeguard children and promote positive outcomes.

Main duties:
To be responsible for complex cases and detailed assessments including, where appropriate Child Protection Assessments
To assist the manager as required in aspects of the team’s work including the allocation of work; maintaining, developing and encouraging high professional standards and supporting the supervision and development of individual staff
To write complex reports and briefing papers on policy and operational issues for the Team Manager, Principal Officer, Chief Children & Families’ Officer and to participate in a range of meetings, case conferences or task forces, service and project management groups
To understand the context of child development, parenting capacity and family and environmental factors in which to establish the needs of an individual child
To provide written and verbal reports which are concise, informative and based on analysis of complex evidence
To attend a range of meetings including child protection case conference meetings and court hearings to represent the department

Essential skills and experience needed:
Knowledge and understanding of child development, parenting capacity, environmental factors and risk and protective factors
Knowledge of childcare legislation, statutory guidance and the London Child Protection Procedures
Knowledge and understanding of a range of systemic interventions and methodologies
Ability to formulate and implement effective social work interventions
Ability to write concise reports and have excellent verbal communication skills
Ability to create a rapport and build relationships with children and parents / carers

Job requirements:
Job Requirements:
All applicants must be Social Work qualified with a valid HCPC registration
An enhanced DBS that is of satisfactory level is essential
Must have a minimum of 2 years recent qualified experience working within a Children with Disabilities Service
