General Manager - Safety, Health and Environment

£40,000 - £55,000 + bonus up to 15% + car

Monday to Friday, 37.5 hours per week

Due to our continued success as one of the country's leading suppliers of heavy commercial vehicles we have an exciting opportunity for a General Manager - Safety, Health and Environment. As part of the company's senior management team, you will be responsible for the development, review and implementation of future health, safety, and environmental policies and procedures across our multi-site heavy goods vehicle workshops, ensuring SHE legislation is adhered to at all times.

Based at our Head Office in Milton Keynes, you will be an organised and enthusiastic individual. You will build relationships with all management teams to ensure best practice of SHE protocols are maintained, in a fast paced environment to create a safe work place for all of our employees.

Responsibilities:

In liaison with our existing Regional SHE Coordinator Team, you will:-

- Monitor, evaluate and review SHE policies and make recommendations to comply with relevant legislation, of which you should have a good knowledge
- Provide management with advice on the prevention of accidents, ill health, environmental incidents, the control of risk and the practical implementation of the company's health and safety policies
- Ensure that full audits of all operational sites are undertaken and fully recorded and reported to senior management as required
- Liaise with regulatory bodies to ensure the company remains compliant with applicable legislation
- Ensure comprehensive risk assessments are carried out throughout the company on all procedures and tasks, as appropriate
- Apply SHE policies in a way that is conducive to the business strategies and aims
- Raise awareness of SHE through inductions, presentations and regular visits and inspections of all operational sites
- Investigate all accidents, injuries, environmental incidents and dangerous occurrences when necessary, reporting to the HSE as necessary
- Maintain a network of First Aiders, Fire Marshals etc., ensuring all qualifications and training are kept up to date
- Ensure all off-site activities, e.g. company events operate within our SHE policies and comply with relevant legislation
- Generate management reports and keep accurate and up to date records of all relevant activity relating to safety, health and environmental matters
- Manage all statutory testing, maintenance and repair of facilities on site including fire safety equipment

Key requirements for the role:

- Qualified to NEBOSH H&S and environmental management diploma standard or equivalent (ideally a Chartered Member of IOSH)
- Robust experience of applying SHE within the private business sector, preferably in the heavy goods vehicle or transport industries
- Experience of developing policies, procedures and training materials
- Strong strategic awareness with the ability to lead SHE Teams in ensuring the implementation and effectiveness of health and safety processes
- Knowledge and experience of accident and investigation procedures and confident with RIDDOR
- Extensive experience of conducting risk assessments
- Proven track record of completing audits, writing management reports and making recommendations that drive health and safety improvements
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
- Confidence to liaise with staff and managers on a daily basis
- Must hold a full car driving licence
