GROUP FINANCIAL CONTROLLER
A top 50 law firm with a heritage that goes back nearly 150 years is looking to recruit a qualified accountant in a newly structured Group Financial Controller position. Reporting into the Head of Finance and managing a team of five qualified / part qualified accountants, the purpose of this position is to manage and lead the Group Accounting team to ensure that all financial and tax reporting deadlines are met and that group policies and processes are adhered to across the firm's network.
The responsibilities of the Group Financial Controller include managing the global consolidation and yearend process, involving the review of regional offices' P&L and balance sheet submissions; reviewing the consolidated P&L and balance sheet as prepared by the FP&A team; review the quarterly balance sheet reporting packs; and preparing the monthly consolidated cashflow forecast. The Group Financial Controller has ownership of the yearend and financial accounting. This includes planning and organising the yearend timetable in conjunction with the external advisors; taking responsibility for the group consolidated statutory accounts based in UK GAAP; and overseeing and executing the preparation of the statutory accounts for the affiliated UK LLPs (six in total). The team management responsibilities include overseeing and monitoring partnership accounts, overseas offices' accounts, the London office management accounts and project-related accounting. On joining the successful candidate will work alongside the Head of Finance in a review and reporting on internal controls and processes with a view to mapping out where improvements can be made and putting place programs of works to build an effective framework of controls across all offices.
Applicants should be qualified accountants (ACA, ACCA or CIMA) and be able to display excellent experience of leading a group accounting function in a professional services business. Dealing with and advising on accounting and tax issues and communicating effectively with senior stakeholders who may not have accounting backgrounds is essential in this role and must be clearly recognisable in any CV's. Strong leadership skills are also a pre-requisite, the passion and ability to nurture and mentor team members a must have in any applicant's work history.
