We are continuing to further develop our team and are looking for a self-motivated Senior Building Consultancy Surveyor enthusiastic and committed to grow our established customer base and partners, with a positive attitude to customer care and a flexible and solution orientated approach

The successful Senior Building Consultancy Surveyor will have previous experience within Building Control; public or private; driven by customer focus and delivery. They will ideally have a BSc degree in a Building or Construction related subject and hold (or be working towards) a professional qualification in Building Control. They will have an 'in-depth' understanding of the various activities undertaken within a building control service and be highly knowledgeable in the field of Building Regulations. You must be positive and committed to marketing the service, well organised and able to manage your own time and workloads within agreed deadlines. You will understand the competitive market place we operate in and be adaptable to change for the benefit of the service and clients alike.


1 To work as part of a team and be jointly responsible for the efficient and effective running of part of the Council's District and/or work acquired through key and repeat clients.
2 To deliver customer focused services in respect of the functions delegated to the Building Consultancy section of Growth and Infrastructure to ensure that both Council and Service aims and objectives are achieved.
3 Within the statutory framework and the Council's values:
4 To interpret the Building Regulations, allied legislation and local Act requirements;
5 To be responsible for the application of appropriate enforcement measures where found necessary;
6 To provide professional advice to satisfy both internal and external customer needs;
7 To promote and market the service as required.


* Previous experience within a Building Control office as a Senior Building Consultancy Surveyor
* Experience of delivering a front line service
* Experience of working within a team

* A BSc degree in Building or Construction related subject is desirable and either, hold or be working towards one of the following professional qualifications
* Preference will be given to candidates who are undertaking or holding member status from one of the following bodies:C.A.B.E or R.I.C.S. However, consideration will be given to candidates who are currently progressing towards these professional qualifications within the Building Control discipline

* Have and be willing to continue to undertake continuing professional development to the levels required to maintain the above mentioned professional qualifications, some of which must be undertaken in the individual's own time

* Working knowledge of the Building Regulations and associated legislation, (i.e. Building Regulations, Dangerous Structures, Demolition control, Scaffolding & Hoarding Licensing, Fire Safety, Disability audits, Estimating for fee assessments, Defective Drainage, Dilapidated Buildings and Premises Licensing. Also the associated legislation, i.e. Building Act, Highways Act, Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act, and the Local Government Act.
* Good understanding of marketing techniques, the role they play in the delivery of a front line competitive statutory service and the role of the individual surveyor in promoting the service and client relations.Have a working knowledge of the use of computerised databases within the Building Control environment
