Job Title: Design Manager / Head of Design
Role Type: 18 Month Maternity Cover
Location: Poole, Dorset
Salary: Up to £40K DOE

We are looking for an experienced and skilful clothing / accessories Design Manager to cover maternity leave for an 18 month period.

This is a great opportunity to work with and develop a growing lifestyle clothing brand. They have a fantastic range of products across menswear, womenswear, shoes and accessories.

Reporting to the MD, you will be responsible for managing and developing a team of designers and developing the creative direction of our client’s brand. You will be in regular contact with overseas suppliers, therefore exceptional communication skills are a must.

Key Tasks:

  • Managing the Design Team of a growing lifestyle clothing brand.
  • Managing the critical path to ensure that design and sampling deadlines are met across Spring / Summer and Autumn / Winter

  • Working closely with the managing director to plan the creative and print direction of the brand

  • Trend and competitor research including tradeshow visits and comp shops

  • Briefing the design team with on daily/weekly workload, targets and deadlines

  • Range planning and presentation of ranges for sign off

  • Maintaining strong relationships with suppliers including overseas travel for fabric and sample development

  • Sourcing new suppliers and factories

  • Responsible for designing the ladies wear category

  • Overseeing the design of menswear, Accessories, Footwear and Print/graphic ranges

  • Completing detailed tech packs on adobe illustrator

  • Negotiating and agreeing prices with suppliers including price range reviews

  • Commenting on samples from first proto through to photo sample including fit reviews

  • Working with the marketing manager on the seasonal catalogue and photoshoot

  • As the design manager will also be responsible for designing the ladies wear meaning candidates will need to be from a ladies wear background.

Performance Measures:

  • Sales margins are on budget

  • Deadlines are achieved and problems resolved or escalated

  • Samples & product arrive as specified and on time

  • Ranges are commercial and brand appropriate

Candidate Requirements:

  • 5 years’ experience designing in a head office environment

  • Experience managing a design team

  • Highly Proficient in the use of Adobe Illustrator and Microsoft Office

  • An interest in the lifestyle branded market backed up by a portfolio showing a commercial handwriting
