Working on behalf of a Local Authority, Aatom Recruitment has an excellent opportunity for an experienced RASWA Inspector on a 3 month contract, with a possibility of an extension. They would like someone who has the experience and knowledge in the following:

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

1 Undertake specific technical support duties within the RASWA Team.
2 Participate in the team working approach to the allocation of duties within the RASWA Team, where necessary leading small teams.
3 Establish effective working relationships with officers of other Services and Departments to enable the RASWA team to play a full and effective role in the corporate working of the authority so that Council objectives can be achieved.
4 Ensure that departmental services are provided to the highest quality/standard with due recognition of client and customer requirements, in accordance with the Council's Customer Care and Equal Opportunities policies.
5 Meet the public and representatives of other Services and Departments as necessary and provide appropriate information on request.
6 Contribute to the maintenance of good employee relations within Highways & Engineering.
7 Work within recognised safe systems of work at all times.
8 Adhere to and apply legislation, Council Standing Orders and procedures as appropriate.
9 To provide cover to other areas of work in response to changes in the workload and operational requirements.

Tasks:

* Undertake inspections in accordance with New Road and Street Works Act and Codes of Practice
* Ensure Health and Safety requirements are adhered to by the Statutory Undertakers / Contractors when working within the highway.
* Ensure standards of materials / workmanship and specification are met to minimise damage to the structural fabric of the roads and footway.
* Attend meetings with Statutory Undertakers and contractors to advise upon timing of works, traffic management requirements and reinstatements specification.
* Undertake testing of reinstatements and arrange defective work to made good, detailing remedial work thus required.
* Input data and electronically send defect notices to the Statutory Undertakers.
* Assess suitability of sites where licences are to be issued and ensure all legal requirements are met and any conditions of approval are complied with.
* Arrange for posting of notices on site for TRO's and subsequent inspections.
* Interrogate RASWA IT System to determine inspections.
* Undertake inspections of any other works being carried out within the highway.
* Investigate general complaints and where appropriate refer for repair or advise upon action to be taken.
* Undertake other duties (within competence and experience) as requested to meet requirements of the New Traffic Management Bill, and in accordance with changing organisational objectives.

Essential:

* Certificate of Competence (Supervisor) - City and Guilds of London Institute Minimum 5 Years relevant experience.
* Understanding of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 including Codes of Practice.
* Ability to work both independently and within a team.
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels.
* Experience of dealing with Statutory Undertakers.
* Experience of Highway Construction methods and good practice.
* Years relevant experience Technical qualification in a relevant subject Understanding of the New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 including Codes of Practice.
* Would be helpful to have a geographical knowledge of the Wakefield Area. Ability to work both independently and within a team.
* Ability to communicate effectively at all levels Basic IT competency.
* Previous liaison with a range of organisations/persons Experience of dealing with Statutory Undertakers Experience of Highway Construction methods and good practice In depth knowledge of Reinstatement Standards
