The largest utility company in the UK is seeking a Quantity Surveyor based in Reading, Berkshire to join its expanding team. This role offers you the opportunity to work within a very successful structured APC training programme with a support network of a number of Chartered Quantity Surveyors, RICS APC assessors and colleagues studying to become MRICS. The post would eventually include in-house training in order to extend the role to include estimating in the future. This is a key role that will give you lots of exposure in the business as you will be the main point of contact in providing commercial advice in our South-East region.

As the Quantity Surveyor, your duties will include:

- Being responsible for all commercial aspects related to £20m of spend;
- Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client;
- Undertaking cost analysis for repair and maintenance project work;
- Assisting in establishing a client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies;
- Performing risk, value management and cost control;
- Advising on procurement strategy;
- Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks;
- Preparing and analysing costings for tenders;
- Allocating work to subcontractors;
- Providing advice on contractual claims;
- Analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports;
- Valuing completed work and arranging payments;
- Maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use;
- Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.

To be a successful Quantity Surveyor you will have the following skills and experience:

- The gravitas to communicate with senior management whilst also being able to advise on individual site based projects;
- A team player and work closely with operational team members;
- The ability to hold your ground and offer reasoned advice in a fast-paced environment;
- Ideally, you would have formal qualifications in quantity surveying with work history for a building contractor;
- This role will involve travel to different company sites so a valid UK driving licence is essential.

In return, the Quantity Surveyor will receive a salary of £32,000 to £45,000 per annum depending on skills and experience.
