A secure training centre based in Milton Keynes that looks after young people aged 12 to 18 years old who have been remanded or sentenced to periods of detention is seeking a Head of Safeguarding and Specialist Intervention to join its expanding team.

The vulnerable young people in the centres care can be challenging with a complex range of social and emotional needs. This is an environment that calls for high standards of social care and service delivery to provide a secure and stable environment for young people to develop their life skills, address the behaviours that have led them into custody and effectively re-integrate them into mainstream society on release.

As the Head of Safeguarding and Specialist Intervention, your duties will be to:

- Promote the safeguarding of young people, acting as the Safeguarding lead for the centre and ensuring that a stable and secure environment is provided for all young people.
- Develop and maintain external links with local safeguarding teams, bringing community expertise into the strategy of the centre.
- Produce and deliver the Safeguarding strategy, review policies and incorporate current legislation.
- Coordinate investigations of all child protection concerns raised by young people, their families, colleagues and/or external parties/professionals to best legislative and best practice requirements.
- Coach, support and develop staff, including supervision & appraisal, to maximise their performance and ensure high standards of care, values, ethics, equality and diversity, policies and procedures, legislation and contractual and inspection framework requirements are met.
- Develop and co-ordinate delivery of Safeguarding training within the centre in partnership with Milton Keynes Safeguarding Board to ensure training is delivered in line with national guidance and research.
- Lead in relation to anti-bullying and oversight of the anti -bullying process, to ensure that legislative, contractual and best practice requirements are met.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships with external stakeholders including the Milton Keynes MASH and the LADO and develop links with intervention providers, developing a Team around the Child approach that identifies priority needs of young people and addresses barriers to education, integration and resettlement success.
- Produce and analyse documents, reports and information in relation to the improvement and effective leadership of behaviour management.
- Monitor and review management information to ensure contractual compliance and best practice.

To be a successful Head of Safeguarding and Specialist Intervention you will have the following skills and experience:

- A qualification in social work or other relevant professional award.
- Understanding of current legislation.
- Managerial experience within children`s social care.
- Willing and able to carry out Duty Director responsibilities on a rostered basis.
- Experience developing / delivering training.
- Experience of developing and implementing policy.
- Experience of working in a custodial environment with young people- under standing the complexity of their needs.

You will be working 40 hours per week.

In return, the Head of Safeguarding and Specialist Intervention will receive a salary of £46,000 per annum.

Please note that these vacancies are subject to a 10 year checkable history and the strict vetting standards set by the company and the Youth Justice Board and are exempt from the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act. You must be eligible to work in the UK and must have been resident in the UK for a minimum period of 3 years.
