This role will be working 3 days per week for the first 5/6 weeks and then 5 days per week there after.

Overall purpose of the job
Contribute to the effective implementation of the Production Department's activities and objectives including assisting with project management, progress-control and print-buying.

Key responsibilities, accountabilities or duties
Help with the project management of books and journals from submission of copy to finished copies including, where necessary, liaising with authors, typesetters and printers.
Take a lead role in maintaining the administrative information systems for all aspects of the Department's work.
Support the Editorial Services Manager and the Production Editors with preparation of manuscripts, checking page proofs, indexes and ebooks, and sending books to print.
Assist in the forward-planning, scheduling and progress-control of projects from receipt of edited copy through to the delivery of finished stock.
Approve supplier invoices for payment when required, record project costs and maintain associated cost ledger systems.
Undertake any other duties that could be reasonably required at the Production Director's request.

Essential knowledge, skills and experience
Experience in a desk-editing or production capacity, or possession of a recognised publishing qualification.
The ability to work with initiative and confidence and be able to demonstrate enthusiasm for text editing and book production.
Good administrative and organisational abilities with the ability to prioritise tasks and work under pressure to tight deadlines.
Excellent written and oral communication and negotiation skills with the ability to deal with authors, colleagues and outside agencies.
Good numerical skills.
Good keyboard and computer skills including familiarity with standard Office applications.

Desirable knowledge, skills and experience
Experienced and/or qualified in book production.
Up-to-date knowledge of book printing and ebook technologies.
