Due to continued expansion in the Road Markings sector, My Client are looking to recruit an ambitious individual to join our busy team as a Commercial Assistant. The post will suit a qualified individual looking for the next step in their career. The successful candidate will assist in the provision commercial/ cost control at all stages of the construction process and provide applications/ invoices on completion of the schemes. Also provide administrative and back-up support to the Commercial Manager/ Commercial dept.

Essential Requirements

* Good competency with Microsoft Office software, including Word and Excel
* Good time management
* Good numeracy skills
* Ability to prioritise and able to work under pressure
* Self-motivated team player
* Open to training and expanding their knowledge, skills and methods of working
* To be methodical, pay attention to detail and be accurate
* Be self-motivated and work under their own initiative
* Be willing to accept responsibility for completing designated tasks in the required time frame and to the necessary standard
* Full clean driving licence

Experience

The post holder maybe the initial point for most commercial enquiries and should therefore present a professional and efficient impression as a representative of the company.

* Contractually aware - knowledge of NEC advantageous
* A level/ GCSE level education English and Maths desirable
* ONC/HNC in Quantity Surveying or similar, relevant industry applicable qualification
* Working knowledge of the Internet
* Experience in a similar role would be advantageous
* Relevant experience with a contracting type company would be advantageous
* Ability to develop alternative solutions to that prescribed in the tender bid
* Must be able to develop and build relationships with external clients
* Sound technical and commercial abilities
* Risk awareness

Key areas of involvement will be managing the contract register, commercial filing, pricing work, billing follow up calls to customers and building your own customer portfolio/ contacts.

Key Responsibilities

* Assisting with the administration of Contract and Tender Registers.
* Ensure all company processes, standards, procedures and behaviours are adhered to for procurement and commercial management/ reporting.
* Pricing enquiries in a timely and accurate manner to a competitive market rate.
* Understand and maintain contract documentation and advise the operations team on pre tender and contract matters
* Ensure the contractual obligations are understood, communicated and adhered to by the entire team.
* Prepare and issue as necessary early warning notices and letters that promote early intervention and seek to resolve problems to minimise disputes and claims - ensure that the contracts Manager and Site Manager understand the situation.
* Liaison with clients on project cost and time matters.
* Undertake take offs for producing Bills of quantities/ prices from drawings in accordance with the various standard methods of measurement
* Preparation and submission of interim valuations, secure timely certification of amounts due and process for earliest issue of invoices to recover monies due.
* Maintaining the department filing system and other general admin support.
* Ensure that the preparation, negotiation and agreement of interim valuations and final accounts are carried out effectively and consistently, and are maintained in line with established targets and ensure a positive cash flow.
* Assisting with pricing variations and compensation events under the standards forms of contracts
* Preparation of target costs
* Administration of sub contractor enquiries, orders and final accounts.
* Assisting with the preparation and agreeing of final accounts.
* Assisting in the analysis of tenders and preparing cost value reports for senior staff and Directors.

Key Interfaces

It is necessary for the post-holder to be computer literate and numerate, with excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

The post holder must also be highly organised and able to tackle multiple tasks.
