Apprentice, IT Development - Royal College of Nursing - Cardiff

Vacancy description

The Development Apprentice will support the Development team in the development and delivery of organisation-wide software systems. The Development Apprentice will work closely with members of the Development team and assist in the development, integration and technical maintenance of the RCN's websites and Intranet.

Main duties and responsibilities

* Participate in Development Team and IT Department Meetings to develop understanding and a working knowledge of the role of IT and software development within a business
* Respond to customer and stakeholder emails and calls with professionalism and deliver an outstanding customer service. Be a point of contact and liaise with the wider business to develop excellent working relationships and promote the work of the Development Team
* Arrange appointments and room bookings when requested, following up under own initiative to ensure that responses have been received
* Assist the Development Manager and the Senior Software Solutions Architect to produce reports in an accurate and timely manner for a range of audiences.
* Support the Development team in their undertaking of a full lifecycle application and website development.
* Support the Development team in drafting technical and supporting documentation using defined templates to support the Development Team in making sure business systems and websites operate to optimum efficiency and can be fully supported.
* Assist with testing bespoke applications and websites to check acceptance and quality criteria are met. Under supervision of the Development team, apply learning of industry coding standards to assist in the development and maintenance of bespoke software solutions.
* Liaise and coordinate with 3rd party suppliers and consultants under the direction of Software Solutions Architects as they acquire, implement and integrate suitable products.


* Technical knowledge of IT systems.
* Demonstrates a commitment to delivering excellent customer experience.
* Ability to use Microsoft Office Packages including Word, Excel, Outlook, internet to an intermediate level.
* Good prioritising and planning skills to ensure that tight deadlines are achieved under pressure.
* Good analytical skills.
* Ability to maintain a high level of attention to detail & accuracy whilst working within tight timescales.
* Ability to update records and maintain database systems accurately.
* Ability to work methodically and logically under pressure in order to offer a quality service.
* Good time management skills and an ability to communicate at all levels.


* 5 GCSE at C or equivalent
* ICT at C or equivalent
* Maths at C or equivalent
* English at C or equivalent

Hours of work

* 35 hours per week


* Between £11,199 - £12,603 per annum dependent on level
