One of our clients, a local authority based in the City is looking for a Finance Assistant to join their team.

Main duties:

To undertake the financial assessment of clients of the Department in accordance with current legislation and corporate/Departmental policies.
To deputise for the Assistant Finance Officer, where appropriate, in conjunction with the other Finance Assistants of the section.
To maintain charging systems and to make arrangements for the collection of charges. In this respect liaison with the DSS, clients and their representatives will be required.
To collect charges in accordance with assessed contributions, including the cashing of pension books, having regard to DSS regulations and audit requirements, and to ensure that income is allocated to computer held individual client records in an effective manner.
To record, maintain and process information relevant to the duties of the section, and to provide accurate, up-to-date management information using relevant IT packages.
To ensure the payment of personal allowances to clients of the Department.
To maintain records concerning client savings, both those held in the County Fund account and those deposited in the 'Derbyshire County Council Resident Savings Scheme'.
To supervise the staff assigned to the post holder, including the allocation of workloads, the monitoring of progress and performance and determining work priorities, reporting problems to the Assistant Finance Officer and to train staff to encourage flexibility.
To make payment of fees for clients in the independent and voluntary sector and Direct Payments to people living at home in an accurate and timely manner.
To provide other financial services to clients, where necessary, for the provision of clothing etc.
To initiate debt recovery action against defaulting contributors in accordance with County Council policies and departmental procedures and to assist in developing effective procedures for debt monitoring.
To implement estate procedures and advise Operational Managers on the procedures relating to the protection of clients' property
