Our client, a leading construction and support services business, are recruiting for a Government Relations Manager - working from both the Twyford and London offices.

The key objective of this role will be to manage the reputation of the company within the political audience, raising the profile and understanding of the brand.

The Government Relations Manager will be the main source of information in briefing senior management on relevant parliamentary initiatives and upcoming policy and legislation.

Responsibilities

* Help define government relations strategy and activities for the company
* Manage our political contact programme at a senior level and brief senior executives
* Identify political risks and opportunities for the business and regularly report on this to the leadership team
* Maintain relationships with relevant contacts in Westminster and Whitehall to support our government relations strategy and provide intelligence.
* Support the Director of Communications in developing both long term and short-term government relations strategy and objectives for the business
* Tailor corporate proposition and messaging for a political audience and coordinate/monitor its delivery
* Manage thought leadership programme though roundtable events, dinners, publications etc.
* Develop and maintain a political stakeholder map and central database - and in turn manage the overall political contact programme for the company
* Identify stakeholders favourable or unfavourable to the Business (e.g. Pro/anti PFI); develop and propose appropriate arguments/positions that promote our business interests; and defend these positions with key government and Whitehall stakeholders, including at a regional/local level
* Develop and maintain relationships with key organisations such as BSA and CBI to promote business interests
* Identify policy and legislative changes that could impact the Business and brief the leadership accordingly
* Day to day management of government relations agency

Experience

* In-depth expert knowledge of Government, administration and parliament practices impacting industry
* Good knowledge of the support services and construction industry and policy around these sectors would be highly beneficial
* Ability to build and maintain strong business relationships with key stakeholders
* Excellent presentational skills
* Capable and available for participating in or organising forums and any other public events
* Team player
* Proactive and able to follow through activities to their conclusion
* Able to strongly advocate the benefits of good government relations internally to ensure the programme is effectively supported
* Enthusiastic and energetic, constantly seeking to identify and deliver improvements in the way that we manage and execute our government relations strategy

This is a full-time, permanent position - working Monday - Friday, 8.30am - 5pm.

This person will be required to work from both the Twyford and London offices, and will be required to travel accordingly.
