Job Description

Job Title: Maintenance Engineer
Department: Maintenance
Shift Pattern: DAYS

Job Purpose

To maintain, service and repair plant, equipment and tooling within the facility. Ensuring that equipment is maintained to a high standard in order to meet company Health & Safety and performance requirements.

Key Working Relationships

Production Manager, Facility Supervisor, Shop Floor supervision, Health and Safety Officer and machine service agents and equipment suppliers.

Principal Duties

1. To undertake mechanical repair and servicing to a range of CNC machine tools, conventional machine tools, moulding machines, special purpose machines, jigs and fixtures as part of planned maintenance activities and break down response.

2. Resolve technical plant and facility problems to minimise disruption to manufacturing operations.

3. To undertake planned maintenance checks of equipment and plant in line with manufacturers recommendations

4. To liaise with outside contractors on all aspect of repair and facility maintenance as required.

5. To liaise with suppliers for the purchase and procurement of replacement parts or services as required.

6. To undertake routine facility checks including but not limited to fire alarm system checks, fire doors and escape routes.

7. Provide support to the Facilities Manager in maintenance and upkeep of the facility as required.

8. To move new and relay out existing plant and equipment within the facility using lifting equipment. Whilst also installing and modifying mechanical services not limited to but including air services.

9. To assist with continuous improvement initiatives within the company as required.

10. Undertake any other tasks as reasonably required by the Line Manager or designated authority.

11. Ensure and promote compliance with all Health and Safety, Quality and Human Resource policies of Timken ILS Ltd.

Personal Specification

Requirements Essential/ Desirable Tested?
• Time served apprenticeship within a manufacturing factory environment.
• Excellent fault finding skills for the diagnostic and repair of CNC lathes and machining centres as well as a range of conventional machine tools including Wickman multi-spindle machines, lathes, mills grinders and injection moulding machines.
• Have a good understanding of pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
• To be able to use conventional machining equipment including lathes and mills for the manufacture of replacement parts.
• Able to plan and schedule own work load
• Complete tasks to a high standard on the basis of priority.

• A minimum of five years’ experience within a manufacturing factory environment.
