Our client in Southampton is looking for a temporary management accountant to cover the post of Estates Finance Officer for approximately 6 months.

Reporting to the Senior Management Accountant, you will be the Finance business partner for Estates, providing expert advice and assistance to staff to ensure robust financial compliance. You will also be responsible for providing
relevant management information which promotes effective decision making delivering improved value for money and efficiency.

Key duties will include:
*Work with Estates staff in the preparation of budgets (revenue and capital), identifying and proposing efficiency and value for money wherever possible.
*To be responsible for budget monitoring for both capital and revenue, identifying and investigating issues, making recommendations and correcting as required.
*Maintaining oversight of projects (revenue and capital), preparing reports to internal and external stakeholders as required.
*To collate, prepare, and explain financial information, including reports and analysis, benchmarking, trend analysis, forecasting, modelling and scenario planning on estates costs.
*To attend contract meetings (as necessary) and prepare schedules (as required) for annual purchases; contract spends and project approvals.
*To work with colleagues to produce and maintain useful decision making information, including (but not limited to) a robust costing methodology for all buildings of the University estate.
*To provide financial data for input to regulatory returns (including EMR and CUBO) as necessary.
*To lead on all Estates financial aspects and ensure compliance with University regulations, including preparation of journals, accruals, prepayments and year end processes.
*To promote the implementation of financial policies and procedures to ensure good financial management practice and compliance with current and future regulatory requirements, providing training and support to budget holders as necessary.
*To provide diplomatic but robust challenge to colleagues where necessary.
*Plan and prioritise own work to achieve agreed objectives and meet deadlines.
*Any other duties reasonably required.

The ideal candidate:

Qualifications
*Fully Qualified Accountant or Part Qualified Accountant/Qualified by Experience

Knowledge
*Knowledge of Management Accounting, costing, budgeting and variance analysis methods
*Experience of working in finance in a large, complex organisation

Experience
*Experience of preparing complex financial information in easy to understand way
*Experience of working with non-finance staff and explaining financial concepts
*Proven experience in the provision of financial information to a variety of customers

Skills
*Ability to communicate complex information to staff at all levels
*Excellent IT skills, in particular Excel
*Strong organisation skills and ability to work to deadlines
*Ability to work on own initiative and within a team environment
