Working for a market leading, multi-national organisation, specialising in the design and manufacture of a wide range of technologically advanced military defence products covering land, air and naval systems. A unique opportunity has arisen within the design team for an experienced FPGA Designer.

Commutable From: Stevenage, Luton, Milton Keynes, Aylesbury, Watford, Harlow & Cambridge

Salary: to £55,000 p.a. plus excellent benefits

Suitable For: Electronics Design Engineer, RF Electronics Engineer, Datalinks Design Engineer, FPGA Design Engineer, FPGA Designer

The Role

FPGA's are one of the most crucial elements in many of the electronic subsystems with the FPGA designers undertaking the whole of the development process from negotiation of requirements and initial design architecture, through to the formal validation and verification of the design. Many designs have demanding safety requirements so FPGA engineers must be able to rigorously verify their designs and demonstrate this to the Safety Officers. This work is extremely challenging but incredibly rewarding.

Utilising the latest technologies form Xilinx, Actel etc. FPGA Designers are not just coders; they have the skills and capabilities to implement complex low-level Image processing algorithms for Seekers to Actuator control functions and all shades in between. The designs often incorporate devices with processing cores and as such Designers have to establish close links with the Systems and Software design functions to get the most from these devices

The Person

To apply for this position, you must be degree qualified in Electronics or similar, with a proven track record in the completion of complex FPGA designs using Xilinx and/or Altera FPGA devices (including SoC configurations using Power PC or ARM cores), preferably within the defence sector. You must also have a good knowledge of Image processing and Safety related design in the context of FPGA's and the verification of such devices, with a demonstrable capability in the use of CAE Design tools (Xilinx EDK, Xilinx ISE, Xilinx XST, Mentor Graphics HDL Designer, Precision Synthesis, ModelSim), backed with strong commercial/market awareness of the latest trends in FPGA technology. You will also be a natural problem-solver, pro-active, tenacious and motivated, with excellent verbal communication, negotiation and influencing skills, as well as able to write clear and concise engineering documentation.

Please note that in order to apply for this role you will need to be eligible for SC (Secret Level) UK Security Clearance.
