We are seeking a self-motivated, enthusiastic Youth Engagement Officer to join our team and lead in the engagement of young people and young adults aged 16 to 24 who are not in Employment, Education or Training (NEET) and who are likely to be disengaged and have a range of complex barriers to progression.

Location: County Durham – Communities within the Lower Gaunless Valley i.e. West Auckland, St. Helen’s Auckland, South Church, Henknowle, Tindale, Shildon
Fixed Term: till 31 July 2018
Salary: Circa £19,578 pro rata per annum, negotiable dependent on experience
Hours: 30 hours per week

Groundwork NE & Cumbria has a dedicated Youth Team delivering a successful Youth Programme which engages with young people across our region.

The Youth Engagement Officer post is part-funded by The Youth Employment Initiative (YEI) which is part-funded by the European Social Fund as part of the (Apply online only) European Structural and Investment Funds Growth Programme in England, which will help to move young unemployed people closer to the labour market, whether that’s getting a job, setting up their own business, starting an apprenticeship, or progressing into further learning. This post is also part of the River Gaunless for People and Wildlife project which is being led by the Wear Rivers Trust and is supported by the National Lottery through the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Essential Skills
• The ability to pro-actively recruit, support and progress own case-load and work towards set monthly targets
• A positive approach that is flexible to adapt to the needs and barriers of the young person
• Experience of finding new opportunities within the local area for young people through networking and developing relationships with training providers and employers
• A professional qualification in either Information, Advice and Guidance (IAG), Youth Work or a related subject to a minimum of NVQ Level III.

Appointment to this post is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure endorsed by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
