A fantastic opportunity for a maintenance technician to be a part of a small dynamic team looking after a specialised commercial science building based in East London. The candidate will be a proactive self-starter who has a positive can-do attitude. He or she must be able to manage and prioritise a challenging and varied workload, using their own initiative.

The post holder will be a multi skilled hands on technician who can attend to a diverse set of reactive, as well as planned preventative maintenance jobs. These include maintenance and repair of mechanical and electrical equipment, plumbing, and the installation of new plant and equipment.

The candidate will have a good knowledge of Health and Safety and best practice guidelines, and will be able to supervise contractors to ensure they are carrying out works in accordance with these guidelines.

The candidate will provide support to the Facilities Manager and deputise for him in his absence. The candidate must be flexible and available to perform out of hours call out duties based on a rota system as well as planned weekend shutdowns.

Main Duties & Responsibilities

·To perform varied, multi trade tasks throughout the building dependant training and experience

·To be able to carry out tasks with minimum supervision e.g. testing and fault finding

·To be able to read and follow M&E drawings and specifications

·To procure relevant materials needed for allocated jobs

·To write and submit full reports on works

·To perform all tasks safely and in accordance with relevant standards, codes of practice, regulations and legislation

·To be to use appropriate maintenance tools and equipment as required

·To undertake training as required

·To perform on-call duties as required (out of hours response is a MUST for this role)

·To deal with tenants and staff in a professional manner and upholding organisations standard of service

·To be flexible and carry out ad-hoc duties outside of job description from time to time e.g. event set up

Knowledge, Skills & Experience



The post holder will possess at least one qualification in a trade and be able to demonstrate technical competence in one other. Essential


Minimum of 5 years’ experience in various trades. This role calls for a multi skilled individual who has a broad knowledge of M&E, plumbing, carpentry and fabric. Essential

Experience of working in a science building. Desirable

Knowledge, skills & abilities

Good IT skills; experience in using MS Office packages. Essential

Able to demonstrate diagnostic skills. Desirable

A self-starter and strong team-player. Essential

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a polite and engaging approach to building occupants and maintenance sub-contractors. Desirable

Excellent written and spoken English. Essential

Physically fit and healthy and able to carry tools and components by hand up to 20 kg. Essential

Able to ascend / descend vertical access equipment. Essential

Able to work at height. Essential

Must be flexible regarding working hours. Specifically able to change work pattern at short notice to meet the requirements of the business Essential

Health & Safety qualification e.g. IOSH Desirable
