We are looking for someone that is energetic and who can hit the ground running with an enthusiastic attitude and can quickly develop confidence and work using their own initiative. Interested candidates should have previous health care experience and be passionate about providing high quality care services.

Excellent communication skills are essential, as is a sense of fun and love of working with a young person with complex special needs. Someone who possesses creativity when interacting and is able to play. This is a hands on role and you will be responsible for supporting this client and carrying out personal care routines, any required therapy exercises, accompanying him out or with family, organising fun activities he can engage in and most of all communicating with him.

Norman is a calm, good natured, affectionate 22yrs old, who has autism, epilepsy and is nonverbal. Norman has support from Monday to Sunday (Apply online only) with 2 carers a day. He can walk with support using specific techniques (which you will be trained on). He lives at home with his Mum and Dad and is very close to all his family including his older sister. The sort of play may be seen as non-conventional (dancing, making funny noises, funny faces). It is important if you are able to attempt to replicate this sort of interaction. Clowning around to get his attention and focus, even for the briefest moment is part of the norm in this house.

From one day to the next, his disposition, health, pain levels, and willingness to engage with others can change or decline drastically. You would need to cope with whatever the situation is and persevere. When he is not having an alert or 'good' day you will need to be imaginative and resourceful. Go that extra length to motivate him by making yourself more animated and try to intensively interact/ play with him. Alternatively it might be a day that he is extremely uncomfortable and taking the initiative to give him a hand/ foot massage, deep pressure stimulation is needed.

* You will need to be able to demonstrate a genuine interest in rehabilitation and delivering therapy. Be able to work effectively, professionally and with consideration alongside another worker.

* The ideal candidate is self-motivated and calm, able to deal competently with any challenges that arise when working within a care team in the home.

* You will be expected to maintain professional boundaries within the home and be able to work well with a multi disciplinary team who are all involved in Norman's care and rehabilitation therapy.

A can do attitude and ability to work collaboratively with existing and new team members, you will be expected to not just participate but also be able to lead when the time comes (when new carers are introduced). It must be stressed the importance of good communication skills. Any lack of confidence with speaking English can be supplemented with enthusiasm to interact and engage with this client and other members of the team.

Requirements of the Care Assistant

* Full employment history and 3 years of reference history
* Reliable, punctual and flexible
* Well rounded verbal and written communication skills
* Eligibility documents to work in the UK
