Freedom of Information Officer

Position: Freedom of Information Officer 
Location: Milton Park, Oxfordshire 
Job Type: Full Time, Permanent 
Hours: 37 hours per week 
Starting Salary: £20,578 per year, Grade 3

About the role: 

They are looking for someone to manage freedom of information requests (FOI`s), environmental impact regulations (EIR`s) and data protection act requests (DP), working across South Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse District Councils. They require someone with an extremely strong customer focus and an ability to be flexible working on a very broad range of tasks (for example able to manage up to four distinct email inboxes). 

The post holder will also be required to pick up a range of general administrative tasks, to provide cover when necessary for the business support assistant and to help out at events run by the team which will require occasional evenings, estimated at four a year. 

Main duties and responsibilities: 

- Enter FOI, EIR and DP requests for both councils onto the freedom of information register, establishing and directing to internal teams responsible for providing the response, providing guidance to staff when needed 
- Monitor response times and encourage teams to respond within the target deadline 
- Prepare the monthly freedom of information statistics for Heads of Service and management team 
- Ensure procedures and guidance for processing requests are kept up to date 
General office administration 
- Answer phones and pass on messages where appropriate 
- Manage the raising of purchase orders and sales orders and processing of supplier invoices and checking / chasing payments for the Policy and Partnership Team and Human Resources 
- Assist with administration relating to events run by the team 
Cover for business support assistant 
- General administrative support to the head of service, line manager, service manager and other team members, including assets of community value 

About you:

- Good standard GCSE`s (grades A to C) or equivalent level of experience 
- Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills 
- Excellent customer service skills 
- Intermediate MS office skills and ability to adapt to using different databases and systems 
- Good written and verbal communication skills 
- Strong customer service ethos and a desire to exceed customer expectations 
- You need to be able to juggle priorities changing at short notice and frequent interruptions 

If you have the following experience or qualifications – it`s a bonus: 

- A levels or equivalent 
- Experience of working in an Administration team 
- Experience of producing reports from an IT system
