Be part of our cutting-edge work to safeguard young people in the community at risk of CSE, gang involvement and drug related risks within the community. The role involves helping girls placed to understand the impact of the abuse they have suffered and identifying young females as victims of exploitation.

St Christopher’s Fellowship is a leading charity for children and young people which provides fostering, children’s homes and a range of innovative housing support services across the UK and Isle of Man.

In 2015, with Innovation Funding from the government, St Christopher’s opened two homes in West Ealing and Islington addressing child sexual exploitation. We need highly experienced and committed staff that can deal effectively with challenging situations and behaviour, yet can inspire and encourage young women to take steps to manage risk for themselves.

As a Children’s Residential Worker you will provide direct support and care for young females aged 12 to 17 years. Working within a social pedagogic framework, you will develop phased care plans aimed at building life skills, teaching young women to recognise risk and manage their own safety within the community. You will engage in intensive key working, with closely supervised activities and will be responsible for providing detailed reports and monitoring.

We need applicants from a wide range of different backgrounds to best suit our young females. You will hold excellent communication skills and the enthusiasm needed to empower and inspire our young people to reach their full potential.

We offer an industry leading training programme, possibility to gain a vocational level 3 qualification, with a range of employee benefits and of course wider career progression opportunities within our network.

Applicants should have:

  • At least 2 years’ experience of working with children in a residential setting.
  • Level 3 Diploma for Residential Childcare or equivalent is highly desirable.
  • Possess a good understanding of the issues surrounding child sexual exploitation and community based risk
  • Have the ability to build genuine and trusting relationships with young people and encourage their independence.
  • Have the resilience to cope with challenging behaviour and circumstances.
  • Have high personal and professional standards
  • Possess excellent communication and team working skills
  • Flexibility to undertake shiftworking including evenings, weekends and bank holidays, and to participate in sleep-ins.

St Christopher’s employee benefits include 25 days leave, shopping discount scheme, contributory pension, season ticket loans, cycle to work scheme, childcare vouchers and employee assistance programme. St Christopher’s invests in staff through therapeutic support, regular supervision and on-going training (including Social Pedagogy) and has a track record of career progression for high performers.

All posts operate on a shift basis and will include work on weekends and bank holidays. Applicants will ideally already be on the DBS Update Service; if this is not the case St Christopher's will carry out a DBS (police) check prior to starting.
