Client Summary:

My client is a global engineering organisation currently seeking a Commodity Buyer to join their team in Derby. From their Derby base, they design and manufacture complex mechanical and electrical systems. With locations across the globe this is a truly international organisation that is seen as a market leader in their sector.

Position Summary

The Commodity Buyer will overlap with Systems Buyers and Lead Buyers working operational and strategic procurement initiatives. They will establish part of material bids, implement sourcing strategies, manage suppliers' commercial relationships, negotiate contract terms and conditions and place orders with suppliers. The purchasing activities are predominantly focused on low volume, long term supply agreements.

Winning Material Bids involves liaising with Material Bid Coordinators to fill-in and commit on material prices on all commodities not covered by Strategic Buyers. Contributing to the identification of material requirements, estimation of allowable costs per system, provision of material reference costs, issue of RFQ to suppliers, selection of offer, creation of specific contractual packages and sign off of a final Bill of Materials for specific commodity.

Support development of Strategic Sourcing strategies through development of an annual plan for commodity sourcing strategies to identify how strategic objectives will be achieved. Actively participate in commodity networks led by Strategic Buyers in providing input to Strategic Sourcing. Provide input to the Strategic Buyers regarding their Business Unit specific procurement needs, evaluation of supplier performance and collection of past and future spend data.

Support Buyers in managing contracts through Risk Management, Claims, Conflict Resolutions, Feedback and input into bids from lessons learnt.

Manage the commercial relationship with suppliers ensuring suppliers are globally competitive enabling the business to gain competitive advantage.
Develop long term supplier relationships through regular performance reviews and cost reductions.
Utilise appropriate tools and techniques to ensure that Procurement delivers its cost and performance requirements.
Responsible for delivering cost reduction activities.

Person Profile/Experience:

Demonstrable experience in Sourcing & Procurement Planning, Negotiating, Supply Chain Risk & Opportunity Management, Supplier Performance & Improvement Management.
It is essential you can demonstrate experience of negotiating contract terms and conditions for long term contracts to supply.
Ability to work to strict deadlines.
Excellent interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Qualifications:

Degree qualified or equivalent experience in a relevant subject to the role.
Ideally MCIPS qualified or part-qualified.
