Are you an experienced banksman/slinger looking for a new opportunity? We are currently recruiting for x 2 enthusiastic skilled banksman who have the right attitude to be trained on shunting train duties. The rate will start at £18 Ltd per hour while being trained but once competent this will rise to £22 Ltd per hour

Working at our Willesden Train Maintenance Depot , we currently require a Shunter to prepare, shunt, marshal and dispatch trains in a safe, punctual and economic manner in accordance with the rules and regulations currently in force. This role is critical in delivering an operational process to ensure the safe management of train movements

Location: Willesden, North West London
Salary: £22 Ltd per hour
Shifts: 24/7 flexibility required

Key Accountabilities Include:

* To liaise with Train managers, signallers and contractor representatives to ensure customer requirements are met regarding the shunting, marshalling and positioning of trains.

* Ensure personal safety and that of others at all times.

* Comply with the rules and instructions, undergo proficiency assessments and attend training courses.

* Carry out emergency procedures when required.

* Report any unusual occurrences, unsafe practices, accidents or incidents.

* Assess the safe condition for travel of all vehicles within each train prior to departure to ensure that the operation will be safe.

* Assess the mechanical condition of all vehicles and report defects to Sleeper Control.

* Acknowledge receipt of and read notices (including amendments) affecting your train, route knowledge or rules and instructions, maintaining competency of all personal publications.

* Carry out coupling / uncoupling of rail vehicles to / from the locomotives and or each other as required.

* Communicate proactively and effectively with GB Railfreight control, other staff and customer representatives in the interests of customer service, operational efficiency and safety.

* Wear uniform and safety clothing provided.

* Maintain a safe and tidy working environment

Safety Training Requirements

* Personal Track Safety (Safety Critical).
* Power Plant Proficiency Certification where applicable.
* Shunter Competency.
* To undergo training if appropriate in other skills such as power plant and road vehicle driving (desirable not essential).
* Where Training has been given and competency assessed, carry out basic maintenance tasks on units.
* First aid at work trained.

Person Specification

* Basic English and maths.
* In Train Movement
* Working in a Safety Critical Environment.
* Driving of a road vehicle (desirable not essential)
* Knowledge of traction and rolling stock systems.
* Effective communication both written and verbal
* Basic Computer Skills including use of Microsoft Word and Outlook (Emails & Calendar)
* Ability to work methodically, plan and organise time effectively
