The East London community service consists of the Brenner Day Centre at Stepney Community Centre, based in Stepney Green. Also provided is the Brenner Day Centre at an alternative local site, a one day a week service on a Tuesday.

Additionally, there are a variety of evening and weekend services taking place at different sites across East London. The Centres reach out to people living in the London Boroughs of Hackney, Haringey, Tower Hamlets, City of London and Enfield, with a staff team of 11 people plus sessional workers across all sites.

This post is full time for 42 hours per week to include regular evenings and weekends. This is a maternity cover contract.

The Role

The role of the Community Outreach Coordinator is to develop the Outreach Service to clients in the community that need support, enabling them to remain independent at home and in the community.

Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities

* To have a daily hands on presence in the services to engage with and motivate, members, volunteers and staff.
* Where necessary, provide assistance and cover to frontline care staff, drivers, to senior colleagues and where required, to deputise for the Locality Manager
* To conceptualise, formulate and lead a number of cultural, religious, social and stimulating activities and social care opportunities internally that are centre based, and also external in the community.
* In partnership with the Locality Coordinator, to develop, coordinate and be the lead member of staff on site at Connect@ Stamford Hil
* To implement and coordinate the Centre’s Community Volunteers programme (befriending) and Supportive Communities programme, to ensure that all members of the community can access a social care service in East London.
* To lead on the Centre’s volunteer development programme in partnership with the Locality Coordinator to implement a comprehensive strategy for volunteering at the Centre. To line manage volunteer coordinators and to ensure that activities are delivered by a group of creative and motivated local volunteer team.
* To build and nurture community links in order to provide services that meet the needs of members of the local communities to include external organisations and agencies such as local Synagogues, Schools and Social Groups to share experience and knowledge and to promote the community-based services.
* To provide vision and to coordinate the Centre’s Outreach services and to cover Outreach tasks as necessary, such as everyday tasks to support and advocate for clients at various times as agreed in their personal care plan, including communication with the Local Authority and GPs.
* To provide leadership to colleagues, volunteers and service users on digital programming such as Jewish Care Interact, online shopping and TV streaming and assistive technology such as landline phone amplifiers, upgrading walkers/wheelchairs and PERS/Telecare developmen
* To coordinate the Centre’s frozen meals service and to develop a ‘Meals on Wheels’ service.
* To plan, develop and implement an array of “out of hours” social activities and to treat the wider volunteer group as a potential group of service users for the social, cultural and popular evening and weekend events at the centre and in the community

Qualifications & Experience

*
NVQ level 3 in Health and Social Care, or educated to relevant degree level.

*
Experience of community work and working with elderly and vulnerable people.

* Experience or understanding of working in a multicultural environment.
* A knowledge of basic vehicle maintenance and the ability to drive minibuses up to 7.5 tonne.
* Working knowledge of digital programming and assistive technology options
