The Role:
Responsible for the support of the control systems throughout the product life-cycle from new equipment requirements, integration and validation through to in service support and obsolescence management to deliver a high performing and reliable system.

Principal accountabilities
+ Able to undertake PLC code changes
+ Up-to-date on industrial best practice for control system
+ Pro-actively undertake and support performance improvement activities
+ Prepare and review technical documentation in accordance with company procedures
+ Lead in the preparation of technical proposals
+ Lead failure investigations
+ Deliver 2nd line baggage control support to shift teams
+ Project management of minor improvement projects
+ Ensure project requirements are understood and that the design implementation meets the requirements
+ Management of 3rd party contractors as required
+ Delivery of assigned tasks within your skill base as required by the business
+ Take responsibility for your safety and the safety of those around you
+ Actively upgrade own skill and knowledge to maintain and operate existing and new assets to ensure they perform and stay performing
+ Undertake tasks requiring in-depth technical competence in electrical/mechanical/control system engineering or other tasks falling within other engineering disciplines which you have skills for or have been trained in
+ Ensure all engineering and operational records are updated to meet business, regulatory and manufacturer requirements
+ Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of those around you as part of your legal responsibility such as the wearing of PPE, completing mandatory training and reporting H&S accident, incident and near misses
+ Pro-actively undertake and support performance improvement activities/programmes
+Effectively communicate to customers and colleagues the progress of completing work and any information relevant to the business or operation
+ Work with and support others (Team Leaders/Technicians/Trainee’s & Apprentices) on a 1:1 basis and as part of a team. Where-ever possible, provide guidance and learning to improve other’s skills or knowledge
+ Actively upgrade own skills and knowledge to maintain and operate existing and new assets to ensure they are maintained in an manner which keeps them performing at the required level

Qualifications and experience
+ Educated to at least ONC/HNC or equivalent in electrical/electronic engineering
+ Understanding of the following technologies:
- Siemens S5
- Siemens S7
- Siemens TIA
- Profibus,
- ProfiNet,
- ASi,
- Ethernet TCP/IP
- Siemens WinCC SCADA
- HMI Touch Screen
+ Previous experience of making minor PLC code changes
+ Understanding of IT infrastructure
+ Understanding of configuration control servers for maintenance of software/documentation
