We are looking for a Senior Highways and Streetworks Inspector to join our highways team in Peterborough.

Peterborough Highways Services requires a Senior Inspector to lead and coordinate the inspections team reporting in to the Operations Delivery Manager. To provide inspection and assessment of the highway and former housing land networks for safety and NRSWA duties within the network management group.


* Provide line manager duties to a team of inspectors
* Assist with the identification of schemes
* Coordinate the issuing of works packages from the inspections team i.e. surfacing, patching, lining etc.
* Oversee and manage an inspection area within Peterborough
* Inspect and assess the highway and former housing land networks in the Councils area and maintain records of conditions, inspections and report in line with the requirements of the "Highways Act 1980" and other relevant legislation
* Inspect all aspects of work carried out by Utility Companies, in accordance with New Roads and Street Works Act regulations and Enforce the Authority's obligations under the Traffic Management Act with regards to Street Works issues
* Manage the budgets allocated to various areas of work
* Carry out investigations, design and costing of small schemes
* Prioritise maintenance and utilities works required to ensure compliance with Council Policy and Code of Good Practise
* Liaise with the Delivery Team to encourage a joined up approach to issuing of works and delivery
* Be available for Winter Maintenance and Emergency Call out when rota dictates

We are looking for:

* Knowledge of highways construction & New Roads and Street Works Act including materials, drainage, signage and road markings
* Knowledge of The Traffic Management Act
* Knowledge of Chapter 8 of the Traffic Signs Manual
* Working understanding of Windows & Microsoft packages (including: Word, Excel, E-mail, Internet)
* Understanding of the requirements of the Data Protection Act
* Experience of preparing photographic and written evidence of infringements
* Winter Maintenance activities
* Must have good computer skills
* Great team working skills and the ability to collaborate well with others
* Driving Licence
