We are recruiting for a Estimator/ Quantity Surveyor in the Hull area.

As a Estimator/ Quantity Surveyor you will need to have:

* HNC/Construction related degree
* Sound and comprehensive of the construction industry
* Proficient knowledge of measurement and valuation
* Good knowledge of standard forms of contract
* Experience of working for a main contractor and of individual projects valued up to £2 million
* Have experience of cost planning, tendering, value engineering, finalising final accounts, resolving disputes, managing subcontractor accounts and defining project risks
* Experience of Local Authority is highly desirable
* Proficient in the use of Microsoft packages
* Ability to move around building sites
* Ability to analyse information and make decisions
* Ability to work under pressure on a number of projects to deadlines and deliver on time, quality and cost


Salary:£34000 to £37,000

Working Hours : 8am to 6pm (37 hours)


Role of a Estimator/ Quantity Surveyor


Contribute to the effective establishment of the Commercial team by ensuring robust procedures are in place and monitoring those in line with company policy.

Ensure that Commercial risks presented by individual tenders are identified and ensure that appropriate action is taken within the tender submission.

Prepare cost/value reports as required up to and including Final Account stage to monitor and manage the financial status of projects, allowing corrective decision making to be made in order to maximise profit and return on capital.

Liaise with the Purchasing Manager with regard to the preparation of appropriate tender documentation to achieve best value procurement of materials, plant and sub-contract resources to maximise potential pre-contract gains/savings.

Prepare competitive estimates from client tender documentation/details including liaison/assistance with the Commercial Manager at tender adjudication to secure essential work for the company.

Provide and present management information as required in the form of tender analysis reports to facilitate future tendering strategy.

Monitor performance/progress of current contracts including compiling and maintaining written files regarding contractual detail and financial aspects. Undertake site meetings and visits as necessary to ensure effective management of the projects, including identifying possible contractual claims/variations.

Manage commercial and contractual aspects of sub-contract work by evaluating tenders and negotiating discounts where possible. Monitor and supervise sub-contractor performance including negotiation of contract variations and valuations through to agreeing the final account.

Produce bills of quantities where necessary in line with standard industry practise i.e. New Rules of Measurement 2, prepare schedules and requisitions monitor deliveries and movements, to increase site efficiency and reduce waste.

Re-measure works undertaken on site valuations, preparation of main and sub-contract interim valuations to ensure accurate interim certificates and to maximise income and secure cash flow.

Contribute to the Company's role of Principal Contractor under the C.D.M. Regulations.

Have a working knowledge of various standard forms of construction and related contracts (JCT/NEC contracts) including the requisite subcontractor arrangements.

Maintain a good professional working relationship with the client and their representatives and provide advice and details in respect of negotiating future and/ or additional work.
