The Department:

HW Fisher & Company Ltd. is a department within the HW Fisher & Company organisation and provides a "one-stop shop" for owner managed businesses including personal and corporate tax, accounting, and VAT functions.


We require a part or fully qualified ATT candidate with at least one years’ experience within a general practice environment to work in the above department with a variety of general practice work, including around 65% personal tax work and 35% VAT and accounts work.

Duties & Responsibilities:

The responsibilities of the role are varied and will include the following:

  • Preparing personal and partnership income tax returns

  • Preparing corporation tax returns

  • Preparing limited company accounts

  • Preparing sole trader, partnership and rental accounts

  • Preparing VAT returns

  • Communicating and corresponding with clients

  • Communicating with HMRC

  • Assisting in the billing of clients

  • Other ad hoc duties in line with the role

The role will involve acting as first point of contact for tax related queries with the team and working closely with a director within the department.

The Candidate:

We require a part or fully-qualified ATT candidate with at least a years’ experience within a practice environment. The successful candidate should have experience in preparing personal tax returns. We also require the following qualities and skills:

  • Excellent organisational skills

  • The ability to work independently and be able to take responsibility for own work

  • Excellent attention to detail

  • The ability to work calmly under pressure and be able to prioritise own time

  • A strong knowledge of income tax, capital allowances and employment taxes and benefits

  • Knowledge of capital gains tax, treatment of foreign income, tax credits, corporation tax and inheritance tax

  • A good knowledge of limited company accounts and the issues affecting small limited companies

  • Knowledge of PAYE regulations

We would also expect the suitable candidate to have a good understanding of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word packages. It would be desirable for the candidate to have knowledge/experience of AP accounting software as well as Digita and Alphatax tax software, although training will be provided where necessary.
