Job Title: Bid Manager

Location: Liverpool

Salary: Circa £35,000, depending upon skills and experience

Hours: 35 hours per week

Job Role:

You will elicit the business and commercial requirements of existing and potential clients; either through a formal tendering process or through direct engagement. You will liaise with the company's in-house technical, UX and design experts to identify solutions that meet and exceed requirements. You will prepare compliant, compelling proposals, successfully conveying benefits. You will articulately and succinctly pitch your solutions to clients in meeting or boardroom scenarios, growing their business and retaining clients. You will be able to explain digital solutions and how technologies can deliver business improvements to their clients.

Key tasks and responsibilities:

  • Lead bids, directing and compiling contributions from subject experts and writing content to make the commercial and business case clear to the client
  • Improve the win rate of the company
  • Play a major role in delivering new business
  • Analyse and review tender opportunities
  • Develop and maintain first class, proactive relationships with new and existing clients, delivering business growth and client retention
  • Create and deliver pitches to clients in a meeting or boardroom scenario in support of your proposal, coordinating contributions from others when required
  • Incorporate all information in professional, well written, competitive proposals addressing the client's needs
  • Act as a single point of contact for key accounts
  • Lead and coordinate client meetings/pitches in support of your proposal
  • Review and critique copy used for bids
  • Review, update and improve shared resources and library of responses
  • Keep up-to-date with our portfolio of services and contribute to our service improvement and development
  • Maintain an awareness of industry trends, identifying new opportunities to remain competitive
  • Maintaining internal tracking systems to ensure they are up-to-date and accurate

Skills, abilities & personal qualities:

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • Comfortable working in a digital services environment with an excellent understanding of web technologies and content management systems
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint
  • Able to communicate technical information clearly to a non-technical, business audience
  • Able to review lengthy documents, precis and summarise salient points
  • Able to demonstrate commercial awareness
  • Excellent time management and ability to deliver to tight and non-negotiable deadlines
  • Communicate effectively and clearly with clients and colleagues, keeping discussions at the appropriate level
  • Strong client-facing skills
  • Knowledge of software life cycle, especially in the context of web and app development
  • Experience of acting as point of contact for key accounts
  • Able to research the subject a tender relates to and disseminate the results of your research to other team members


  • Track record of successfully bidding for and winning web technology work in a digital solutions, web agency and/or software services environment
  • Experience of public sector tendering
  • Extensive experience in writing proposals/bids
  • Client-facing experience
  • Experience in pitching for new business
  • Experience of working closely with development teams, project managers and senior management
