Senior Design Engineer / Manager required for superb opportunity with a leading independent design and manufacturer of specialist capital equipment for the treatment and cleaning of precision components from hydraulics and engine blocks to turbine blades and sensors.  Customers include Rolls Royce, UTC Aerospace, JCB, Perkins, Triumph, Renishaw, SKF, Delphi and McLaren.

The Senior Design Engineer / Manager leads the design team, setting the design standards, allocating the workload, quality assuring the design work and managing the personnel. The Design Manager will also get involved in hands on design work, in particular delivering the more conceptual aspects of design to support sales initiatives.  

Senior Design Engineer / Manager Responsibilities:

- Sales support - conceptual designs, layouts and costings.
- Customer liaison - during the sales process and while project managing the design elements of contracts.
- Run internal design meetings/reviews and communicate your design intent.
- Design of mechanical, pneumatic and electro-mechanical elements and electrical controls of complex, integrated systems.
- Take part in reviews of new/revised design proposals, including reviewing manufacturing and assembly costs
- Prepare drawings for sub-contractors both in the UK and overseas, carry out liaison work with sub-contractors including resolving issues in the design and its interpretation
- Provide input and advice to the manufacturing / commissioning teams during the installation of the project on-site.
- Any other duties deemed appropriate within the scope of the role.

Senior Design Engineer / Manager Competencies: 

- An excellent grasp of engineering and design principles
- A solid knowledge of mechanical, electro-mechanical and pneumatic components
- Understanding of electrical design 
- An understanding of machine building processes and construction methods
- Proficient in SolidWorks 
- Experience of conveyors / automation would be advantageous
- Ideally a degree in engineering, but potentially HND etc with experience
- Engineering design experience, ideally in a machine build environment, or another capacity requiring a broad engineering knowledge
