Senior Credit Risk Manager
Overall Job Purpose
o The purpose of the role is to drive insight into credit performance and the optimisation of BPF Motor credit strategies, through data analytics and modelling. This will cut across a number of different products and/or business areas.
o The job holder is responsible for the management of credit risk strategies, standards and processes, with accountability for driving profitability and growing the portfolio within the defined risk appetite.
o The jobholder may lead a Credit Strategy Analyst(s) as respects day to day activities of risk analysis, offering strategic thought leadership, analytical direction and execution/implementation oversight as well as control activities related to credit risk.
o The Jobholder is required to manage senior stakeholder relationships across commercial stakeholders (e.g., product, channel), functional stakeholders (e.g., operations, finance, marketing) and CRO (e.g., decision science, impairment forecasting, change, fraud, manual underwriting, group risk, etc.). The jobholder may be expected to represent the business at industry forums and face off against commercial partners such as Experian, Call Credit etc.
o The role holder will provide first class leadership, embodying the Barclays Behaviours and will inspire and contribute to developing the CRO Team to be customer centric, commercially focused and aligned to the CRO and commercial objectives.
Key Accountabilities & approximate time split (%)
Strategic Development and Planning (50%)
o Continually develop, refine and drive credit risk strategies and its constituent initiatives.
o Will display a real 'hunger’ for making a difference and demonstrating incremental P&L growth/defence through application of strategy.
o Define and deliver of supporting standards, implementation plans and business cases underpinning the Strategy and its deployment. This includes oversight to all strategic transformation projects to support risk decisioning capabilities.
o Monitor metrics to understand credit trends, key drivers and manage performance within expectations.
o Manage the budget for Strategic Investment (SI) and small change projects related to credit risk and get necessary approval from senior management to complete project stages as well as provide periodic updates to the accountable executive.
Management and Execution of Portfolio Standards and Processes (20%)
o Own the development, implementation and on-going management of credit risk standards and strategies taking feeds from customer, market, industry and portfolio insight to ensure standards and processes are aggressive and robust whilst while offering an excellent customer experience and whilst staying within the defined risk appetite.
o Identify test and learn opportunities and oversee the execution of the tests, measuring of impact, and making new strategy recommendations based on analytical insights from tests.
o Ensure consistency and accuracy of credit strategies, enhance and automate operational controls, define and monitor relevant metrics, etc.
o Ensure credit risk standards are maintained and managed in accordance with group risk policy and all governance, audit and regulatory requirements with appropriate controls.
Leadership & Stakeholder Management (30%)
o Build and maintain strong, productive relationships with key stakeholders including counterparts in CRO, operations & the senior leadership within the business, including the MD, and Directors of Commercial teams, Conformance Office and Finance, ensuring alignment of objectives and understanding of implications of credit risk on business strategies.
o Deliver results effectively through others. Participate fully in Credit Risk Team and the business team to ensure credit risk activities are aligned with the CRO and business agendas. Act as the single point of contact while setting and aligning goals and providing updates to senior stakeholders on progress against those goals.
o When needed, stand in for the BPF Head of Credit Risk in various decision making forums / committees.
o Communicate credit risk strategy and any implications across the wider business unit or Group stakeholders including presentations to senior audiences (e.g., Risk Management Committee, Exco, and Group Risk). All communications will be delivered in a timely manner and to the expected high standards. The role holder will be an ambassador for Risk in the business.
o Provide day to day direction and leadership to credit risk analyst(s) and coach/develop junior CRO team members.
