I'm seeking a Senior Mechanical Design & Development Engineer to join a business who develop advanced electro-mechanical products for industrial markets.

The position will see you providing functional leadership across the Company's mechanical design activities, providing support to the Engineering and Operations departments. You will be responsible for continuous improvement to products with a focus on cost savings, manufacturing changes and warranty improvements. The role will also see you taking responsibility for full lifecycle NPD overseeing the design and development of new products working with a multi-discipline engineering team.

Key Responsibilities:

* Provide Functional Leadership across the Company's mechanical design activities
* Co-ordinate and plan Mechanical Design activities alongside the software, hardware integration and test teams
* Provide mechanical design support to the Engineering and Operations departments
* The production of 3D detailed design and 2D manufacturing drawings
* Full lifecycle design and development for NPD projects
* Selection of materials and components to be used in the designs
* Assist and advise on the specification of materials and components
* Compile mechanical tests and verification procedures i.e Stress Testing
* Work closely with internal & external manufacturing, assembly and production teams
* Provide the mechanical content for production packages
* Monitor location and status of tooling for plastic mouldings
* Create and maintain BoM structures for production manufacture
* Verify all mechanical design outputs

Experience and Background Required:

* A high profile Mechanical Engineer with at least 3 years experience and a good track record in the design and development of electro-mechanical products
* Proficient user of Solidworks for the creation of 3D detailed designs and 2D manufacturing drawings
* Experience working on continuous improvement and modifications to existing products
* Experience designing plastic injection moulded components for small to medium volume manufacture
* Strong knowledge of plastics & injection mould tooling
* Good working knowledge of other manufacturing processes and tooling i.e. die casting and machined parts (aesthetic and functional applications
* Strong working knowledge of electro mechanical design including electronic packaging, PCB's, switches, solenoids, motors etc
* Experience and the ability to compile and complete mechanical testing
* Knowledge of ingress protection and EMC compliance is highly desirable
* Knowledge in the management of BOM's, 3D & 2D technical drawings within the context of a structured NPD process
* Experience of clearance and fits and tolerance analysis desirable.
