Description
Rullion are looking to appoint a Hydraulic Modeller Team Leader (Water) to work in our Hydraulic Modelling Team. You will play a key part in enabling us to achieve our aspiration of being 'an industry leading centre of expertise for water and waste water hydraulic modelling, servicing our customers.'
The Role
To lead and coach the Water Hydraulic Modelling Team within the Strategic Customer Service Planning function, in the development, delivery, assurance and promotion of hydraulic modelling services to colleagues in the business (for water systems). To build and maintain a strong team that has good relationships with all key stakeholders and keeps abreast of industry leading techniques.
Key Accountabilities/Tasks:
- To support the Hydraulic Modelling Team members' wellbeing and manage the performance of the team.
- To liaise with asset management colleagues and other customers and stakeholders to identify the priority business drivers and requirements for modelling services.
- To ensure that Hydraulic Modelling Services are being managed and delivering the outcomes required to meet priority business requirements.
- To lead in continuous improvement of models, by maintaining regular dialogue with colleagues, seeking their feedback and incorporating this into future work of members of the team. To encourage a collaborative approach
- To lead in the development and production of business papers, presentations, dashboard reports or tools to ensure that the conclusions of hydraulic modelling work are understood and used by others.
- To ensure team compliance with quality standards (ISO) and audits. To support in the development and maintenance of performance measures for hydraulic modelling work and to manage and maintain models and reports.
- To support in the development, delivery and promotion of the Modelling Strategy.
- To keep up to date, review and embed key relevant developments in the water industry and academia. To ensure that this knowledge is shared with team members.
- To manage the team budget and funding requirements. Ensure an accurate view of actual costs, commitments and forecasts against targets are available.

Key Technical Skills and Knowledge:
Essential skills/knowledge:
- Demonstrable experience of applying a wide range of hydraulic modelling techniques in a business setting or in a research-based role within a university or equivalent setting
- Significant experience at a team leader / influencing level with a track record of performance improvements and motivating staff to deliver
- Strong communicator with stakeholder management experience
- A proven ability to prepare appropriate work packages and manage projects
- A proven ability to structure business problems and translate complex model outcomes into business intelligence that can easily be understood and used by others who have limited experience of hydraulic modelling techniques
- Degree in relevant discipline such as Civil/Mechanical Engineering or Computer Science
- Experienced in using InfoWorks or similar
Desirable skills/knowledge:
- Previous experience of working in hydraulic modelling in the water industry or other related business
- Experience of managing a team budget
- Project management skills
