Service Manager – FM Engineering
£36,000 – 38,000 with £4,306 car allowance and benefits

Overall Job Purpose:

This position is responsible for the management of engineering FM service contracts throughout my clients group client base, based in Coventry: pro-actively managing, planning and co-ordinating a schedule of mechanical, electrical, refrigeration and civil engineering preventative maintenance (PM) activities. Alongside the formation of an annual multi-disciplined reactive maintenance time tabled, to be controlled and allow monitoring of the service technicians.

By instruction, guidance and active involvement, this position will lead a team of service technicians, administrators (where applicable), and contractors in the delivery of the disciplined programme of PM / reactive activities and project related installations. This role is based within in Coventry, however frequent travel will be expected to the contracted sites, to provide assistance with surveys, tendering and general engineering meeting with the clients both the company teams and client teams.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Manage the service delivery of the contracted scope of work set out between client and the company
Manage and plan the work for the field engineers on a day to day basis
Plan and schedule the working activities between the onsite team of engineers and subcontractors
Coordinate contractors on site
Commercial control and forecast planning
Workforce planning for all eventualities
Preparing new quotations from the customer RFQ
Formulation of all contract asset management and key preventative maintenance programmes
Set service delivery standards, audit and record results, implementing necessary actions where required
Proactive involvement with client’s central maintenance / production teams and management
Integral partner of the client in the development and maintenance of their process productivity and business facility
Proactively identify service contract development and project work opportunities, liaising with Business Development Team where required
Delivery of a safe working environment for employees and contractors to ensure an enviable H&S record is maintained
Control of CDM sites in line with customer requirements
Provision of task assessed RAMS
Provision of employee training matrix
Reduction in major repairs / consumables and lost production time
Continuous improvement initiatives planning
Ensuring Company complies with client management systems
Attend meetings where applicable to report out issues raised, opportunities to support client activities, production, maintenance and my clients added value orders
Tools, equipment and consumable control
Contract control - commercial budgets, operations and systems adherence
Adhere to all quality, health and safety, Environmental and personnel procedures
Any duties as reasonably requested by the Technical Services Manager

The Service Manager will be flexible in their approach to work regarding adoption of variance / demand of clients requirements, be willing to undertake future contract developments and duties as reasonably requested by line management

Performance Measures:

The effectiveness of the Service Manager will be measured by the effective contract delivery to the client together with proactive development of service opportunities and leadership to the site engineering teams:

Daily / Weekly completion of planned and reactive work orders to standards equal or exceeding that are expected by a world class service provider
Adherence to company and client’s management procedures
Communication and effective interaction with client
Overall contract control of budgets and deployment of labour employed
Effective reporting and documentation
Contract and project development deliverables
Several auditable measurable items carried out by Team and Management
Ensure contractors adherence to site plus all H&S requirements including working to CDM requirements
Set KPI’s as determined by the Technical Services Manager
Feedback from internal colleagues and customers

Person Specification

Formal Qualifications

Essential: HNC in engineering or a relative discipline
Desirable: Engineering Degree, H&S accreditation, CDM awareness, Project Management skills


Essential: Facility infrastructure maintenance - Electrical systems, Refrigeration, mechanical, plumbing and civil engineering, Health and Safety Legislation and Processes


Essential: Experience of working in an automotive or similar based role. People management, Management of an engineering team, Budget control, Project management, Working to ISO management system standards


Essential: Practical hands on experience of maintenance activities, Computer literate, Ability to write reports and instructions, Commercial budget discipline, Clear and concise communication
Desirable: H&S CDM management involvement, Presentation of project solutions and contract development, Contract business commercial estimating

Personal Qualities

Essential: Ability to build relationships at all levels, Attention to detail, A will do/can do attitude to problem solving
Good communicator, Self-starter, Ability to delegate, Results driven, Motivational. Organised

Other Requirements:

There may be occasions where the individual is required to work flexible hours in meeting the delivery of unscheduled requirements (sometimes as emergency cover) to fulfil Company and Customer demands.
