Head of Advisory - Regulatory Compliance Consulting

This role is a 12 month fixed term contract to provide maternity cover for the Head of Advisory position within our Regulatory Compliance Consulting business. This is a growing compliance and risk focussed practice that sits within firm's Financial Services offering and is staffed with compliance and risk professionals from across the industry. It works alongside our financial services legal and government relations teams but is distinct in that it specialises in providing operationally focussed regulatory and risk solutions to clients.

The team covers a range of activities for a different clients from running global compliance, risk and control projects for FTSE 100 companies to advising on s166 reviews to authorising new market entrants. The advisory part of the business focusses materially on providing ongoing 'helpdesk' based support to a clients; providing ad-hoc advice on a range of regulatory matters; providing training; undertaking regulatory approvals and notifications; and supporting clients execute their regulatory change projects.

The Role

  • Lead the advisory business within Regulatory Compliance Consulting.
  • Develop and oversee a small team running and developing ongoing relationships with core clients and executing the tasks required of the advisory business (e.g. regulatory authorisations, applications and notifications; compliance training; compliance monitoring; compliance advisory services; preparation of compliance documentation; regulatory change projects).
  • Take responsibility for managing and developing specific client relationships.
  • Take responsibility for executing the departmental strategy as relates to advisory business activities.
  • Support the development of the Regulatory Compliance Consulting business, by identifying opportunities to grow the current footprint, whether through extending services to current clients or identifying and progressing new opportunities to develop relationships.
  • Participate in/lead business development activities for Regulatory Compliance Consulting.
  • Build and leverage internal relationships to ensure that the Regulatory Compliance Consulting business offers practical, effective and efficient solutions to its clients.
  • Ensure work within the advisory part of the Regulatory Compliance Consulting business is completed to the high standards expected.
  • Attend client events (both internal and external) as appropriate, representing Regulatory Compliance Consulting.
  • Foster a professional relationship and maintain open lines of communication with clients, be alert to regulatory changes affecting clients and be proactive in bringing these to clients' attention.
  • Develop the skills and expertise of individuals within the advisory part of the Regulatory Compliance Consulting unit.
  • Work with other parts of the Regulatory Compliance Consulting business and the broader risk advisory community to leverage opportunity and expand the department's internal and external footprint.

Skills and Experience Required

This role requires an individual who is prepared to undertake client relationship management, work on technical advisory project and lead and develop a team whilst driving excellent, pragmatic, operational solutions to clients. This individual will also, where time permits, be expected to support the business development activities of the practice. Specific skills and experience required are:

  • Deep practical knowledge in at least one aspect of financial services, through 7-10+years working in compliance functions within financial services
  • Ability to influence senior stakeholders in challenge and solution delivery scenarios
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships across lines of defence, providing practical and compliance solutions whilst not compromising the integrity of the practice
  • Good knowledge of related financial services regulation and risk practices, applicable to a range of financial services firms.
  • Engagement with FCA/PRA or other regulators
  • Industry knowledge, preferably in a business / compliance consulting capacity to financial services institutions.
  • Good technical knowledge of UK Financial services regulations
  • Ability to analyse and interpret detailed regulations and apply and articulate such interpretation to real business scenarios.
  • Ability to provide broad insight into the practical impact of regulatory change across the financial services industry.
  • Ability to provide proportionate, considered, risk-conscious advice in response to the practical challenges of financial services regulation to a broad range of financial services institutions of varying sizes and complexity.
  • Broad understanding of thematic priorities of key regulatory stakeholders, both at a domestic and European level.
  • Highly motivated, with a proven ability to work on own initiative within a fast-paced, high pressure work environment.
