To be responsible for processing income and expenditure, compilation and production of a range of financial reporting, assisting colleagues across the organisation in financial reporting and liaison with external suppliers, working under the direction of the Corporate Services Manager.
Responsibilities, tasks, authority and accountability:

Preparing and processing monthly payroll using Sage payroll. Working together with the HR team to ensure compliance to staff contracts, company, HMRC / other statutory rules, the company pension scheme. Building and retaining relationships with colleagues whilst responding to payroll anomalies and enquiries as required.

Finance and accounting

Maintaining computerised accounts (using Sage Line 200), including sales ledger, purchase ledger, nominal ledger, post transactions (sales purchases, payments and receipts) relating to individual site operations. Prepare and submit bank payments, VAT returns, purchase ledger invoices (in line with the financial standing orders).

Preserve a friendly and professional relationship whilst promoting cost control with external suppliers, funding partners, customers and debtors to include the supply of data as accurately and efficiently as possible and responding in a timely manner. Develop an internal financial reporting procedure and support non-finance colleagues in financial reporting processes.

Administration and Reporting

Maintain appropriate, accurate and structured financial systems and records, developing and reviewing systems and processes and training colleagues across the organisation as required.
Participate in the induction of colleagues moving into roles where financial reporting is a requirement;
Carry out and manage internal audits which link to assist in the annual external audit exercise. Assist in the preparation of Gift Aid returns, preparation of monthly management accounting reports and other ad hoc reports as required by members of the Executive Leadership Team.


Contribute to the general efficiency of the wider office environment by answering telephone calls, dealing with post and welcoming visitors, alongside other colleagues and ensuring that this is managed in line with the principle duties of this post;
Uphold the equal opportunities and health and safety policies of the organisation and challenge behaviour where appropriate;
Be prepared to travel to other Community Transport sites occasionally, which may, very occasionally require an overnight stay. Undertake any other tasks and duties as requested, commensurate with the status and remuneration of this post.

The Successful Candidate will;
• Achieved or working towards AAT, or qualified by experience
• Have good numeracy, literacy and personal skills with the ability to deliver financial reports to non-financial colleagues through verbal and written communicational skills.
• Have a good working knowledge of spreadsheets to include use of formulae, charting and report layout e.g. Excel.
• Have experience of using Sage and Sage payroll software or equivalent.
• Experience of preparing accounts to Trail balance.

The Successful candidate preferably would also have experience of;
• Double entry bookkeeping.
• Both purchase ledger and sales ledger
• Directly processing payroll for shift based hours
• Working with colleagues based at multiple sites
• Managing debtors
• Managing cash books
• Experience in working in a not-for-profit sector
