Job Purpose:

To ensure key financial controls operate effectively and consistently across the Group. To ensure the maintenance of robust balance sheets.

Principle Accountabilities:
Assisting with the implementation and maintenance of effective financial controls across the Group and for ensuring they operate effectively.
Liaison with staff within the business to ensure adherence to policies and procedures and actively look for and implement improvements to processes.
Assisting with the preparation, update and maintenance of policies and procedures applicable to the Group.
Participation in projects designed to test and improve the system of internal controls
Reviewing and approving access requests to SAP.
Reviewing existing access rights to SAP, confirming compliance with the delegated financial authorities, looking for weaknesses in the system of internal control and making recommendations for improvement
Provide support to the statutory and regulatory reporting process including maintaining robust balance sheets and liaising with auditors.
Participation in projects designed to test and improve the system of internal controls.
Liaison with colleagues to ensure that finance risks are adequately managed and reported.
Responsibility for the development, implementation and maintenance of the Financial Authority Limits guidelines for the Group.
Oversee and review all balance sheet reconciliations ensuring that all reconciliations are robust, balances are supported and that all issues are resolved promptly.
Participate in accounting for provisions, interest and any other adjustments necessary to support the month end process.
Review the monthly VAT returns and assist the Tax department in query resolution.
Review the intercompany reconciliation process.
To assist in ensuring alignment of key accounting systems, i.e. SAP, BW/SEM, fixed asset register etc.
Maintain effective communication with colleagues and other parts of the Business, internal and external audit to sustain a high reputation for financial governance.
Nature and Scope:
This position is part of the UK Power Networks Finance team. The post will be based at Crawley although the role may involve visits to other locations.
Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications & Experience:
A finalist or recently qualified accountant is desirable
An understanding of the accounting in a regulatory environment would be of benefit.
Experience in preparation of statutory and regulatory accounts would be an advantage.
Sound knowledge of business processes and financial systems used by the Branch.
Strong IT skills, including SAP and Microsoft Excel & Powerpoint
