A major manufacturer of supplements and tablets based in Runcorn is looking to appoint an additional Packaging Technologist within the New Product Development (NPD) Department as part of ongoing expansion.  The role is open to both recent graduates and candidates with experience.  The salary will reflect experience and training will be provided.

Working as a key member of the NPD team you will find this role both challenging and varied. As the company strives to introduce innovative concepts and new product launches to the market, the NPD department is always busy.

Within NPD they manufacture and organise the packing of tablets, hard shell capsules and sachet formats for the nutraceuticals sector along with licensed product development (Traditional Herbal Remedies), requiring interaction with other departments and external suppliers. 

A vacancy has arisen for a Packaging Technologist.  The successful person will be a graduate looking to progress their knowledge at a growing, fast moving nutraceutical company.  The successful candidate will look at developing new and existing formats (e.g. tubes, cartons, sachets), and will gain an in-depth understanding of packaging capability within the industry.  They will be expected to work with Technical and Regulatory to provide advice on artwork labelling and compliance, and to work with customers, Sales and Production to improve enhance company capability and delight their consumers.

Duties:

- Work with the Packaging Technologist to explore and understand new packaging innovations within the marketplace, and to evaluate their feasibility within the company
- Support Engineering and Production in the design, commissioning and qualification of new technologies and equipment as required
- Advise customers and sales managers on packaging options for their products and to provide quotations for these
- Co-ordinate with customers and suppliers to generate artworks for cartons, labels and leaflets, initiating amendments in line with customer and legislative needs, the latter in conjunction with Technical
- Produce packing specifications and agree component standards
- Liaise with suppliers to ensure new componentry and artwork is sourced correctly and on time and to resolve any issues with existing components
- Brief the Purchasing function on supplier, quantity and price for componentry
- Maintain databases for printed packaging quotations, artwork, tooling and status of active projects

Qualifications and Experience:

- Graduate degree in Chemistry, Pharmaceutical Science or Chemical Engineering (or related subjects) or equivalent experience
- An understanding of packaging technology and its applications within the nutraceutical or food sector
- Motivated with a common sense, practical approach.
- Good IT skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Confident and self-motivated.
- Good time management and the ability to be flexible and work to targets and under pressure.
- Excellent communication skills (both verbal and written); able to communicate with customers, suppliers and colleagues.
