A leading FTSE 100 Group with state of the art offices in Central London require a Trade Compliance Manager.

This is a newly created role, is primarily responsible for taking the lead on operational transactional matters and global strategic programme development. Operational support will include leading on responding to business queries in relation to export controls and sanctions compliance, sanctions and denied party screening and product classification. Wider programme development will include policy and procedure development; design and delivery of both general awareness sessions and practitioner training; and the consideration of trade software solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day advice to the businesses globally and global functions on trade and export control and in some instances, broader trade compliance issues. Co-ordinating responses to internal queries on trade and exports controls legislation and policy that may require internal consultation and external legal or other professional services advice.

  • Contributing to sanctions and denied party screening and interpreting compliance obligations arising from such screening.

  • Commissioning and assisting in the delivery of due diligence reports.

  • Conducting and recording product classification exercises across business units.

  • A trusted advisor role on trade compliance matters, developing and building on existing, strong relationships and trust between the businesses and corporate functions.

  • Support the implementation and enforcement of a robust trade compliance programme.

  • Review of activities and transactions to ensure that business is being conducted in an ethical and legal manner and that policies and procedures are followed to reduce the risks of non-compliance with laws and regulations.

  • Support internal investigations into allegations of non-compliance with the trade controls compliance programme.

  • Lead on the development of trade control training and awareness programmes together with the roll-out and implementation of such training programmes.

  • Identifying potential risk areas and advising on compliances processes and procedures to mitigate such risks.

  • Monitoring of and reporting on the external trade compliance environment.

Experience & Expertise

  • Proven experience in the area of sanctions and trade controls, including comprehensive knowledge of UK, EU and US export control, economic sanctions regulations and compliance requirements. This will have been gained in an in house environment, in a Government Regulatory Department or in a private practice or professional services role.

  • Experience considering and working to resolve trade compliance issues in a business context with the ability to balance commercial priorities with legal and regulatory requirements. This will have been gained through working in a similar in house role or in a legal or professional services role providing advice to commercial businesses.

  • Proven track record in implementing trade compliance programmes.

  • Ability to travel 15-20%
