Supported Living Team Leader (Domicilliary Care) Newport, Gwent

ALP Supported Living Services are providers of support to adults with mental health diagnosis and learning disabilities, including those who exhibit behaviour that may challenge. We have an exciting opportunity for the post of Team Leader at our new project that we are currently setting up in Newport City Centre that will provide accommodation for 4 Service users with mental health diagnosis and or learning disabilities and may include supporting service users who exhibit challenging behaviour. The successful applicant will be directly responsible for the efficient management of this project, planning and future development of the service.

We require a capable, dynamic indivdual who has experience of working with adults with mental health diagnosis and or learning disabilities who have behaviour that may challenge. You will be able to demonstrate that you have held a senior position in a supported living/residential role working with service users with mental health diagnosis for at least 3 years. You will have an in-depth knowledge of the legislation surrounding domicilliary care and this client group. You will be responsible for the management and rotas for approximately 6 staff including 1 senior support worker who will assist you to manage the project. You will be hands on in terms of providing support to service users and also have a friendly, compassionate manner. You will be able to practice in a person centred way and have a knowledge of person centred care plans that are outcome focused.

Additional responsibilities of this role are ensuring that staff are fully trained and up to date and helping them to achieve their full potential. Other duties include staff management, supervision, appraisal, formulation of assessments in relation to prospective users of our service, completion of outcome focused care plans, risk assessments and a knowledge of using Positive behaviour support plans and reviewing these. An important aspect of this role is that you will need to be confident when working alongside other professionals and present as a positive role model for our organisation. Good oral and written communication skills are essential for this role.

You will be provided with a very high standard of support to undertake your duties by the Registered Manager and Responsible Individual from a smaller, supportive organisation whose focus is on providing a high standard of care to the users of our service and quality assurance will also contribute to this. You will be require to register (or be elligible to register to practice as a Domicilliary Manager) with the Care Council for Wales. You must have a good understandin of the Domicilliary Care Agencies (Wales) 2004 regulations and the National Minimum Standards, aswell as a knowledge of the Safeguarding and the Social Services and Wellbeing (Wales) Act 2014.

Person Specification

  • QCF Level 5 in Health & Social Care (or equivalent such as the NVQ 4 Registered Managers Award) or working towards a qualification such as this.
  • You will have a minimum qualification of NVQ3 and be prepared to undertake the QCF level 5 immediately.
  • It is essential that you have at least 3 years experience of working with clients who have a mental health diagnosis.
  • You must able to complete comprehensive assessments, care plans, risk assessments and other documents that are required
  • You must be able to develop positive working relationships with other professionals
  • Have experience of Management of controlled medication
  • Be a positive representative for the organisation
  • Full Driving Licence

Hours/working conditions

This role is for 37.5 hours each week, Monday to Friday and hours are typically 9 am to 5 pm. However you will be required to be flexible and be prepared to work sleep-ins, evenings, weekends and participate in an on-call rota that may be necessary. You will be entitled to statutory holidays and be able to participate in a pension scheme.

The location of the project is based in Newport city centre and there is limited parking allocation available free of charge.
