This is an exciting opportunity for a driven individual to accelerate their IT career as an Apprentice IT Support Technician for a reputable Cheshire -based organisation. As part of an IT Apprenticeship, you’ll gain hands-on experience; industry recognised Microsoft, CompTIA and ITIL qualifications all whilst earning a decent salary.

Who you’ll work for

The employer provides a diverse range of engineering solutions, consultancy and training to businesses around the world. Located in Stockport Cheshire, you would receive on the job training, exposure to lots of different technologies, excellent prospects and the chance to have a real positive impact within the organisation. However, you’d need to be a fast learner, methodical and able to follow written procedures carefully. To give you an idea of what you would be working with, some of the technologies used include; GEO Laser 1Gbps LAN Bridge, VMWare, MS SQL Server, Sophos Enterprise and the latest versions of MS Software and a whole lot more!

Your core role as an Apprentice IT Support Technician will be to work alongside the IT Manager to support a group of engineering consultancy businesses based in Stockport of approx. 170 users across 4 sites plus some home/remote users.

• Provide 1st Line / Desktop support to the user base operating on a Windows network
• Create new Users
• User administration
• Troubleshoot issues relating to PC’s laptops, printers, software, networks, phones, etc.
• Set-up new PC’s laptops, printers, software, networks, phones, etc.
• Audit backups
• Source and order new hardware
• Assist in any IT related projects

What experience and skills do I need?

You’ll need at least five GCSEs (or equivalent) at Grade C or above including Maths, English and either IT or Science. Additionally, you will have the following:

• Applicants should be confident communicators (written & verbally) and be able to effectively manage users expectations. They should also be able to quickly identify user’s needs when, as often the case, the user doesn’t quite know themselves.
• Applicants should have a professional approach, be customer focused and be keen to develop their technical support skills. They should also be eager to learn in a fast paced friendly environment
• Fully driving license and own car preferred, however, not essential

Future career prospects:

By working hard and demonstrating your ability, drive and commitment throughout your 12 month apprenticeship scheme, upon completion you will be offered a permanent position. Beyond that, because it’s a very small internal IT department and all aspects of IT are managed in-house, the role will evolve and grow as fast as the successful candidate is able to
