We are currently representing a high technology business that design and develop complex electro-mechanical devices that are supplied into a number of industries. Due to company growth they are looking for a Mechanical Design Engineer to join a multi-disciplined team.

You will have overall responsibility for the design and development of new products from initial concept through to production. You will be given the freedom to use your experience to develop and grow the company's design and engineering efforts as you see fit. This is an exciting opportunity to step up into a senior role within a high-tech organisation.

What will your day to day responsibilities be?

* Requirements capture for new products
* Development of mechanical concepts using sketches, prototyping and 3D CAD
* Prototyping of concepts using rapid prototyping parts and off-the-shelf components
* Collaboration with internal software teams and external design and electronics consultancies
* Sourcing, liaison and implementation of manufacturing strategy using external manufacturers
* Preparation of 2D/3D production data packs
* Ensuring product compliance with CE and FCC regulations, including EMC testing, RoHS compliance and other legislation as applicable
* Fabrication of test and calibration rigs in the workshop
* Design of ancillary materials including packaging, labelling, technical manuals, assembly documentation
* Working with internal R&D and sales teams to provide mechanical design support for customer specific requirements and new business opportunities

As the product design and engineering lead within the business you will be responsible for championing best practice throughout the entire product development process.

What are we looking for?

* A confident and competent mechanical design engineer with at least 5 years' experience in development of electro-mechanical products from concept through to production
* Proficient 3D CAD user, ideally SolidWorks but not essential, for the creation of 3D detailed designs and 2D manufacturing drawings
* Strong DFM and DFA skills for design of low-volume and batch-production parts in metal and plastic
* Experience building relationships with external manufacturing, design and production teams and external suppliers
* Understanding of electro mechanical design including electronic packaging, PCBs, EMC compliance
* Experience integrating bought in parts and precision optical components - cameras, lenses
* Experience using rapid prototyping, hands-on workshop skills and 2D graphic design skills would be beneficial
* Some understanding of industrial design (sketching, surfacing, VBL, design research) activities would be beneficial
