Senior Component Engineer

Location: Coventry, West Midlands

We are currently recruiting for Senior Component Engineer who will be leading a team responsible for the technical design and development of engine components (intake manifold, turbo charger, exhaust manifold or external EGR componentry, sump, flywheel housing, balancers, FIAD, bespoke after-treatment, etc.), and will work closely with nominated suppliers

Accountabilities:

* Establish component and/or system characteristics, attributes and requirements
* Define, cascade and communicate targets to suppliers (internal and external)
* Manage energy-transfer & packaging interfaces
* Create quality documentation, (review quality history, boundary diagram, P-diagram, robustness check list, DFMEA, and design verification plan (DVP))
* Review test results and present conclusions/recommendations
* Review and sign off engineering drawings
* Supervise component design evolution at supplier
* Direct and guide design and analysis teams and junior team members
* Support delivery of program within boundaries of responsibilities
* Manage own workload to ensure program milestones are met on-time
* Request and provide information from the AVL-Database

Required skills and experience:

* Minimum BEng (2:1) in Automotive or Mechanical Engineering
* 6+ years base engine systems experience

Ability to demonstrate experience in the following:

* Design for manufacture
* Understanding of component materials and manufacturing processes (e.g. castings/ fabrications etc.)
* Fastener engineering
* Engineering design calculations by hand or spreadsheet, using a "Classical" approach
* 3D modelling and 2D DWGS including GD&T techniques
* Quality disciplines (e.g. FMEA, fishbone diagrams, 8D analysis)
* Component & System specification
* Robust test plan development
* Excellent soft skills
* Good understanding of latest industry developments & technology trends
* Excellent spoken and written English,
* Communication and teamwork skills, presentation skills and readiness to cooperate
* Ability to work both independently and in a team-oriented, collaborative environment
