Purpose of the role
As a member of the clients Enterprise Architecture function, the purpose of this position is to define and evolve the clients data architecture. This includes the design, development and maintenance of the enterprise data warehouse solution and other solutions which implement the data architecture. The candidate will be well-versed in the development of large scale systems and have a proven experience in applying best of breed technologies for delivering business critical services.

Our client is committed to a very large programme of change which includes the replacement of the clients finance solution and a new BI capability. The role presents an exciting opportunity to help define a new approach in a rapidly changing market as well as keeping it up to date with continuous improvement.


• Design, development and maintenance of the enterprise data warehouse including:
◦ definition of dimensions, their attributes, hierarchies and relationships
◦ cube calculations, aggregations, KPIs, partitioning and processing strategy
◦ implementation of data security
◦ integration with BI analytics tools and reporting

• Lead the definition, communication, and governance of the data architecture
• Collaborate with other architects to define enterprise architectures which are aligned to the firm’s business strategy
• Future state planning and road mapping
• Governance and standards setting
• Concept and business case development
• Collaborate with other colleagues in the IT department to deliver solutions which implement the data architecture
• Concise architecture and technical documentation
• Training IT technical and support teams in relevant aspects of new solutions
• Promoting, encouraging and supporting best practice
Working with external counterparts to facilitate integration of products and services

Technical skills
In-depth knowledge of Microsoft BI technologies including:

Experience of:
• SQL Server 2014 / 2016
• developing and maintaining enterprise grade BI solutions
• BI systems analysis
• Extensive experience of defining and evolving data architectures
• Extensive knowledge of the principles and best practice in BI development
• Substantial experience of systems analysis and requirements specification
• Substantial experience working at a strategic level
• Proven understanding and experience of implementing design patterns
• Will have taken technical ownership of the successful delivery of at least one major IT system
• Proven ability to deliver projects on time, with strong organizational, time and task management skills
• Proven system design experience and experience of thinking strategically
• Proven experience of and ability to, effectively persuade, explain, and negotiate at all levels

Desirable skills
Experience of:
• the data vault (DV2.0) data architecture paradigm
• business intelligence mark-up language (BIML)
• BIML Flex
• Visual Studio Team Services
• using Visual Studio database projects to manage source control of data assets
• working as part of an agile development team (SCRUM)
• Power BI
• Master data management / Master Data Services
• SharePoint 2013
• continuous integration
• IT related degree or similar relevant experience
• TOGAF 9 foundation / certified
• Exposure to Microsoft Azure
