To assist in the establishment and maintenance of the systems required for the billing, collection and recovery of Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debts. To receive and receipt monies tendered by the public.

Main activities:

The maintenance of an accurate Non Domestic Rating/ Council Tax List and Sundry Debtor records.
Billing all those liable.
Assisting the tax payers, rate payers and debtors at large, answering their questions and giving authoritative information, where necessary taking appropriate decisions as governed by the relevant legislation and any Council decisions.
Such contact may be conducted by phone, letter or personal contact.
Processing and reviewing claims submitted for discounts, exemptions and disabled relief.
Ensuring that all forms are completed correctly
Checking all documentary evidence requested is correct and liaising with other councils as necessary.
Managing individual accounts from information received by phone, mail, email or other departments.
Recovering the monies not paid by the due dates after reminders/summons has been sent.
Negotiating a payment plan with Tax/Rate payers to clear outstanding debt.
Attending Magistrates Courts to assist the Senior Revenues Officers.
Monitoring building regulations information which includes new individual builds and sites.
Liaising with property owners or developers for progress reports with regards to completion dates for raising the properties in Council Tax and Business Rates.
Referring all new properties to the Valuation Office.
Ensure that banking’s are made in accordance with the policy laid down in Financial Regulations
