Cordant People are recruiting for a reputable Education establishment in the Bolton area for an experienced Cleaning supervisor/Caretaker to work on a part time basis, Monday to Friday 3:30am-8:30am.

Job purpose:

* To ensure the buildings are cleaned to a professional high standard, this is a hands on role with the expectation that some cleaning activities will be conducted.
* To have overall responsibility for the organisation of the day to day cleaning operation and to safeguard the security of the building during the early morning cleaning shift



* Unlocking of the building, ensuring fire and intruder alarm systems are fully operational and are properly disarmed to enable access.
* Ability to understand and operate the Fire and Intruder Alarm, Smoke Vent Safety Systems and respond to any errors on the display panels accordingly.
* Knowledge and understanding of the plumbing and ability to respond to leaks.
* Ability to respond to minor electrical problems that may arise prior to 7am.
* Ability to call out emergency contractor services in the event of serious fault.
* Visual inspection of the building, identifying any problems and informing the Head of Estates/IT in a timely manner.
* To ensure that a reporting system / procedure is in place for notifying defects to the Head of Estates/IT

Health and Safety:

* Responsibility for the building keys.
* To have a full understanding of all regulations and take appropriate action where required.
* To maintain the security of the building, ensuring that any health and safety measures are in place and observed by all staff.
* Fully conversant with Health and Safety and COSHH Regulations, completing Risk Assessments for the duties and the storage of chemicals and equipment.

Cleaning supervision:

* Supervision and motivation of cleaning staff.
* Carry out a daily staff briefing at the start of the shift with cleaning staff.
* To produce written daily, weekly, monthly and termly cleaning schedules which result in the building being cleaned to a high standard.
* To assign cleaning areas to staff, ensuring that the workload is manageable.
* Carry out daily inspections to ensure the cleaning assistants are cleaning the premises effectively


* To take early morning staff absence calls and advise Personnel.
* To conduct return to work interviews with a member of the Personnel Department where appropriate.
* To record attendance in connection with the weekly unsociable hours payment and provide Personnel with the information for payroll on a monthly basis.
* In consultation with the Estates Manager, identify the number of cleaning staff required to maintain the building to a high cleaning standard.
* To liaise with the Personnel Department with regards to any identified vacancies and ensure that advertisements are placed and interviews organised to maintain staffing levels.

Financial Management / Budget Control:

* To manage the annual cleaning budget, monitoring expenditure to ensure the budget is not exceeded.
* To order cleaning staff uniforms as required and undertake their distribution.
* You must have cleaning experience and have experience in a supervisory/managerial role. You must also have experience of general building maintenance, in particular electrical and plumbing.

The hours of work are 3:30am-8:30am Monday to Friday. Ideally you will hold an enhanced DBS certificate and can supply a minimum of 5 years references. The role is to start immediately and interviews are being held from next week.
