Role overview
To conduct planned and reactionary, maintenance and intervention tasks on all plant and equipment. To ensure that duties undertaken are of a high standard and to maximise operational uptime. This is a shift based position which includes some night and weekend working.
This role is critical in supporting site operations, with key assets including Complex Conveyor Systems, Sortation Machines, Carousels, Scanners, PLCs and IT based Control Systems.
Principal accountabilities
• Undertake planned preventative and corrective maintenance, mindful of asset performance and operational requirements. Feedback requirements or carry out work required to repair out-of-service assets or improve poor performing ones.
• Undertake tasks requiring in-depth technical competence in electrical/mechanical/control system engineering or other tasks falling within other engineering disciplines which you have skills for or have been trained in.
• Use GAL IT work management systems (e.g. Maximo) as required. Receive & close down work orders, enter data accurately and use system data to drive individual and asset performance. Ensure all engineering and operational records are updated to meet business, regulatory and manufacturer requirements.
• Take responsibility for your own safety and the safety of those around you as part of your legal responsibilities; such as the wearing of PPE, completing mandatory training and reporting H&S accidents, incidents and near misses.
• Pro-actively undertake and support performance improvement activities.
• Effectively communicate to customers and colleagues any information relevant to the business or operation.
• Work with and support others (Team Leaders/Technicians/Trainees & Apprentices) on a one to one basis and as part of a team. Wherever possible, provide guidance and learning to improve others skills or knowledge.
• Actively upgrade your own skills and knowledge to maintain and operate existing and new assets to ensure that they are kept in a manner which keeps them performing at the required level.
• Support Engineering Managers conducting the TPDR (Technician Performance Development Review) process with the team by providing feedback on the Team Leader(s) performance both in terms of ‘what’ they do and ‘how’ they do it.
Qualifications and experience
• HNC/ ONC Controls/Electronics Engineering or equivalent qualification.
• 17th Edition IEE Wiring Regulations, SCADA and Siemens PLC or equivalent would be advantageous.
• Demonstrable experience of cross skilled working (i.e. beyond core discipline) is a key job skill requirement. Along with proven experience of working with plant and equipment. Working knowledge of control systems and principles.
• Fault finding and problem solving using industry established techniques (such as fishbones, RCA, etc.).
• Demonstrate initiative, drive and flexibility along with good written and verbal communication skills.
• Full UK Valid Driving Licence.
Framework and boundaries
• The technician will be expected to frequently work in passenger facing areas, as well as back of house areas (check in zones, baggage halls, comms rooms, security etc.)
• The technician will be expected to work collaboratively. This role has no direct reports.
• The technician will primarily be working in a technical role, but must be willing to assist with the wider operation.
