Job Title: Finance Controller
Location: Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire
Salary: £28,000 to £34,000 DOE + 20 days holiday PLUS 8 Bank Holidays

Responsible for undertaking or supervision of all bookkeeping / accountancy tasks on a daily basis using Sage 50 Accounts – Taking accounts up to trial balance. Someone with construction / trade experience, CIS, client retentions would be of great interest (this is not essential)

• Creating & entering sales invoices from work records
• Entering supplier invoices to purchase ledger
• Allocating supplier payments & customer receipts
• Management of construction retention accounts & subcontractor CIS payments
• Processing charge card & petty cash payments & receipts
• Bank reconciliations for all bank/ cash accounts
• Debtor & creditor management
• Making supplier payments including settlement discount
• Monthly wholesaler account reconciliations
• Completing quarterly VAT returns (cash accounting basis)
• Controlling & reconciling PAYE & VAT & net & gross wages
• Making timely payment to HMRC for PAYE, CIS, VAT, CT liabilities
• Monthly adjustments & journals as required - Accruals / prepayments - Work in
progress, Maintain fixed asset schedule & update depreciation journals
• Prepare end of year accounts for external accountant


• Payroll using Sage payroll software (weekly & monthly)
• Entering timesheets from employees (approved by Managers)
• Processing payroll for employees & directors including SSP, SPP, holiday pay
• Keeping track of employee sick days & absence
• Staff purchase deductions & reconciliations
• Ensure wages journals processed correctly

General duties:

This is a small family run business so general office duties may be required occasionally such as answering the telephone & taking messages etc. There is scope for the role to expand into other areas including HR

Qualifications / Must Haves:

• AAT - Level 4 or higher or equivalent – with at least 5 years’ experience in a similar role
• Payroll qualification or payroll experience including all statutory payments
• Strong competence with Sage Line 50 & Sage Payroll software
• Microsoft Office Word & Excel
