Job Title: Cloud & Infrastructure Architecture Manager

Reports to: Head of IT Service Delivery

Background

One of the largest and most diverse energy companies in the UK and Ireland involved in the production, storage, distribution and supply of gas and the generation, transmission, distribution and supply of electricity and other energy services to over 9 million customers across our Retail brands. Regularly been voted No.1 for customer satisfaction in multiple independent surveys and is one of the UK's largest generators of electricity and the UK's largest generator of renewable energy.

The business has recently embarked on a 5 year+ £1Bn IT transformation programme spanning all areas of the business to support its continuing strategy. The provision of sustainable and optimal supporting platforms, infrastructure and cloud solutions will be critical to the success of these programmes.

Main Purpose of Job

The purpose of the role is to lead and oversee the Infrastructure and Cloud Architecture functions to ensure timely, efficient and high quality designs and standards, aligned to the strategic direction set out by the Office of the CTO, and to drive associated strategic cloud transformation.

Key Accountabilities

* Delivery

Across the entire group project portfolio (up to £200 million per annum), ensures the delivery of high quality technical designs to meet project/business requirements, schedules and budgets and such that ongoing agreed service levels can be met.

* Cloud Transformation

Drives cloud transformation for new and existing solutions, and particularly with respect to Infrastructure as a Service designs and orchestration.

* Cloud Capability

Develops, maintains and continually improves the technical solutions for cloud orchestration and ensures they are fast, efficient, transparent and easy to use. Ensures appropriate KPIs are implemented and regularly reported.

* Engagement Management

Ensures internal customer (project) requirements are clearly understood, documented and that commitments are clearly articulated, tracked and reported.

* Team Management

Leads, motivates and provides strong direction to the team of up to 30 internal and third party Infrastructure Architects to deliver the above. Managed through six direct reports.

* Stakeholder Management

Establishes and maintains strong relationships with colleagues and customers. Fosters trust and instils customer confidence with respect to technical capability, reliability and professionalism.

* Third Party Management

Contributes to the definition of third party requirements/services and drives suppliers to deliver maximum value, beyond the minimum contractual commitments.

* Communication

Serves as a principle advocate and evangelist to proactively promote the adoption of cloud technologies and associated strategic partnerships.

Education, Experience, Knowledge, Functional and Technical Skills and Communication and Personal Attributes

Education

Bachelor's degree in computer science, system analysis or a related study, or equivalent experience.

Experience

Minimum 5 years or equivalent relevant experience managing and developing teams with the ability to provide inspirational leadership and development, and build personal profile with the SSE IT teams and business. Experience of leading an Architecture function, or similar function.

Minimum of 5 years or equivalent relevant hands-on design and implementation experience in IS, cloud solutions, with knowledge in a minimum of two of the following technical disciplines:

1 Application development
2 Network design
3 Middleware
4 Servers and storage
5 Database management
6 Infrastructure

Business Knowledge

* Ability to understand the long-term ("big picture") and short-term perspectives of situations.
* Ability to translate IT strategy and needs into architecture blueprints and designs.
* Understanding of the enterprise's political climate and how to respond to the political challenges.

Functional and Technical Skills

* Should be familiar with and experienced in the application of one or more architecture frameworks and any associated architecture development methods, including: TOGAF, DoDAF, MODAF, Zachman, FEAF.
* Ability to estimate the financial impact of architecture solutions and alternatives.
* Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
* Knowledge of all aspects of cloud & infrastructure architecture.
* Advanced knowledge of business process re-engineering principles and processes.
* Advanced knowledge of information principles and policies.
* Advanced knowledge of financial models and budgeting.
* Strong understanding of network and data centre architecture, as well as application development methodologies.
* Ability to quickly comprehend the functions and capabilities of new technologies.
* Understanding of SOA, object-oriented analysis and design, or client/server systems.

Solely responsible for delivery of cloud & infrastructure solutions ranging from £50k to £300m for a large investment portfolio.
