Our client is a forward thinking and progressive company which has been serving the industry for over 50 years. They provide the best and most effective salvage collection and disposal service, for the UK’s top insurance fleet and accident management companies. They have an expanding network of UK sites with over 130 employees and are renowned for processing over 40,000 vehicles every year.

They are looking for a Python Developer based at their Head Office in Canvey Island, Essex (home working would be considered and discussed at the interview). They will be responsible for designing and implementing web applications and systems using python over the current MySQL database.

Reporting to the Information System Manager, they will be responsible for:
• Designing, building, testing and documenting software and web applications in Python.
• Providing support to the users of the current applications and proactively liaise with the end-users to get feedback on its effectiveness and performance.
• Supporting and working on any change management when required.
• Liaising with stakeholders to gather and interpret requirements and proactively liaise with the end-users.
• Dealing with any major issues which may occur during the day to day running of the business.
• Maintaining and migrating existing Perl-based web applications.

Suitable candidates are likely to have a minimum of 5 years experience in a similar role, good communication skills, aware of changes in the industry and cutting edge technology, be adaptable, proactive and able to use their initiative. They must have experience implementing software development methodologies such as Agile, project management experience, systems analysis, experience in migrating legacy systems and knowledge of the software development lifecycle. They should have experience using Python, MySQL, Apache, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and JavaScript. Experience using Perl and an understanding of financial systems and processes would be a significant advantage.
